Worker Rescued After Excavator Toppled & Trapped His Left Leg
A man believed to be a foreign worker was trapped under an excavator at a Housing Board worksite in Tampines on Tuesday (Dec 17) morning.
An excavator had toppled during a lifting operation and landed near the man, pinning his left leg on the ground.
SCDF officers eventually managed to free the man’s leg. He was taken to Changi General Hospital for treatment, but his condition is not known.

Police: Using Phones While Crossing Not An Offence, But Pedestrians Should Avoid It For Own Safety
The police have confirmed that it is not an offence to use mobile phones while crossing the road.
However, they said that pedestrians shouldn’t do so for safety reasons.
Police made this statement on Facebook after rumours started circulating online that pedestrians who use their phones while crossing roads can be fined up to $1,000.
“We advise pedestrians to avoid using such devices when crossing the road, as such usage would distract them from the road conditions and the movement of vehicles around them” the police said.

AVS & NParks Investigating Incident Of Man Throwing Dog Out Of Moving Car
A man who was caught on video throwing a dog out of a car window while driving is being investigated by the National Parks Board’s Animal and Veterinary Service (AVS), the agency said on Tuesday (Dec 17).
The incident happened at night in Lorong Halus near Pasir Ris.
NParks is appealing to members of the public for information and urging people to contact AVS on 1800-4761600. Necessary enforcement action will be taken, AVS said.

Man Pleads Guilty To Firing 6cm-long Nail Into Colleague’s Chest
Yang Chengwei, a Chinese national, pleaded guilty on Monday (16 December) to one count of causing hurt by a negligent act that endangered human life.
The 23-year-old failed to observe proper safety when he was handling a pneumatic nail gun and accidentally fired a 6cm-long nail into his colleague’s chest.
He was sentenced to a $2,000 fine or, if unable to pay, jail for a day. For his crime, Yang could have been sentenced to a maximum of six months’ imprisonment, or a fine of up to $2,500, or both.

Lower Tuition Fees For Part-time Uni & Poly Students, Increased Bursaries
The Ministry of Education (MOE) said in a statement that about 2,100 Singaporean part-time undergraduates and diploma students will benefit from increased bursaries next year.
Part-time students in universities and polytechnics on bursaries will pay lower tuition fees from next year, just like those studying full time.
New and existing Singaporean students enrolled in publicly funded part-time courses at all five polytechnics and the autonomous universities are eligible for this financial support.
