Singaporean Boy Drowns in Swimming Pool of Cruise Ship in Langkawi

A 10-year-old Singaporean boy drowned in the swimming pool of a cruise ship docked at Star Cruise Jetty in Langkawi, Malaysia on Monday (Nov 18).

A medical team aboard the ship provided medical assistance to the child, including performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but the boy could not be revived.

Langkawi police identified the victim as Heng Kai Lun Alan. The boy was on vacation with his mother and a friend onboard the ship that had sailed from Singapore on Sunday for a three-night cruise.

Aloysius Pang’s Death: Two SAF Servicemen Fined After Pleading Guilty 

Two soldiers were fined for their roles in the death of actor Aloysius Pang after they pleaded guilty in a military court on Tuesday (Nov 19).

Third Sergeant (NS) Hubert Wah Yun Teng, 31 was fined $8,000. If he does not pay, he will be detained for 40 days. The judge also agreed that he be demoted from Third Sergeant to Corporal.

Military Expert 2 (ME2) Ivan Teo Gee Siang, 35, was fined $7,000 and if he does not pay, he will be detained for 35 days.

Both men faced charges of negligent act endangering life under the SAF Act, among other charges.

Woman Jailed 17 months For Conspiring To Cheat NTU Of $191,000

Louise Lai Pei Hsien, 43, the former director of IT firm I-KnowHow (IKH), was jailed 17 months after she conspired with a former Nanyang Technological University (NTU) director and used her own husband to cheat the university out of $191,000.

She pleaded guilty to five counts of cheating, with another 10 cheating charges taken into consideration.

Lai and her co-accused Cheng Choong Hung, also known as Viktor, were former colleagues.

42YO Woman Jailed 15 months For Assaulting Maid

A 42-year-old woman was jailed for 15 months after she abused her Indonesian domestic helper, including punching her nose several times and using a plastic bowl to hit her head.

District Judge Eddy Tham, who sentenced the accused, Jenny Chan Yun Hui, said the sentence had been downgraded on compassionate grounds as she has major depressive disorder.

Chan’s depression meant that she had less control of her emotions, contributing to the offences committed, said the judge.

The 42-year-old had pleaded guilty to three assault charges, including one count of causing grievous hurt, earlier this year in February.

Fake Changi Airport Lucky Draw Cheats Over 30 People Of More Than S$40,000

Over 30 people have fallen prey to lucky draw scams in which scammers misused Changi Airport Group-related names, such as Changi Millionaire, to obtain victims’ credit card and bank account details.

The victims were cheated of at least $40,000 between July and October this year.

Victims received unsolicited calls from scammers through phone calls and were told they had won a prize. They were then asked to provide their credit or debit card details and bank account information to claim their prizes.

The police advised members of the public to be wary of such lucky draw or prize claims, especially if they had not taken part in such campaigns.
