MHA Debunks M’sia NGO’s Claims Against S’pore’s Execution Methods

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has just debunked Malaysia’s non-governmental organisation (NGO) Lawyers for Liberty’s (LFL) allegations about Singapore’s execution method.

They claimed that prison officers in Singapore have to kick the back of the neck of a prisoner with great force to break it in the event that the rope snaps during a hanging. LFL also alleged that the Singapore Government approved of the “unlawful methods” used to cover up an execution if the rope snaps.

MHA said that the allegations were “untrue, baseless and preposterous”. This also invoked the Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act (Pofma) in which an order has been issued to the LFL and the three parties that have shared the allegations – Singaporean activist Kirsten Han, The Online Citizen, and Yahoo Singapore – to make amendments to the false statements.
