According to the Economist Intelligence Unit, Singapore ranks ‘far below Thailand and Malaysia’ and only slightly better than Indonesia in terms of prepareness for major infectious disease outbreaks.

Singapore, ranked 24th out of 195 countries, fall into the next category of nations that are “more prepared” for such outbreaks.

LTA & SMRT: Bukit Panjang LRT Renewal On Track For Completion By 2024

The renewal of the Bukit Panjang LRT (BPLRT) is on track for completion by 2024. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) and SMRT said that the light-rail system had become more reliable after SMRT stepped-up maintenance.

In March 2018, the government announced details of the $344 million project to overhaul the problematic BPLRT.

10 Private Estates Will Go Through $29 Million Upgrading Over 4-5 Years

According to the Ministry of National Development (MND), ten private estates in Singapore will be undergoing upgrading. This was announced yesterday.

Upgrading works will cost $29 million and includes footpath lighting, installing wheelchair-accessible ramps and improving the estates’ landscaping and parks.

These include Cheng San Cactus Sunrise, Frankel. Fulton, Kew, Mei Hwan, Namly, Pasir Panjang Private Estate (East), Thomson Adelphi and Soo Chow and Pemimpin, Watten and Westwood.

The Demand For HDB Resale Flats Is Still High In Q3

Demand for Housing Board resale flats remained strong in the third quarter of 2019. This was due to recent policies that make it easier for buyers to get loans and grants.

There were 6,264 resale transactions between July and September, down by just 12 compared to the second quarter which saw 6,276 cases, said HDB on Friday, 25 October.

SAF Captain Charged With Death Of NSF Liu Kai; 5 Others Charged With Leaking Photos Of Incident

A Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) officer was charged on Friday, 25 October in relation to the death of full-time national serviceman (NSF) Liu Kai. The death occurred in November last year. Regular serviceman Ong Lin Jie, 28, a captain was charged with doing a rash act causing death.

Court documents revealed that he allegedly failed to keep a safety distance of 30m between the Land Rover and a Bionix Infantry Fighting Vehicle which had reversed and mounted the driver’s side of the Land Rover during a training exercise.
