Fire Broke Out At Aquarius By The Park In Bedok, No Injuries Reported

A fire broke out in the early hours of 28 December, Saturday at Aquarius by the Park, a condominium in Bedok.

Police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) were alerted to the incident at around 12.40am. Videos and photos showed the blaze emerging through the bedroom windows of a 14th-floor apartment. The fire seemed to have started because of the contents in the bedroom.

At least seven police cars and four fire engines responded to the scene. No injuries were reported and the fire was extinguished with one water jet.

Another Fire Broke Out At Trellis Towers In Toa Payoh, No Injuries Reported

Another fire broke out on the morning of 28 December, Saturday at Trellis Towers, a condominium in Toa Payoh.

The fire reportedly started in the living room of a 15th-floor apartment and was later extinguished with one water jet.

200 residents were evacuated and thankfully, no one was injured.

Former NTU Valedictorian Scams More Than 70 Friends Of Over $800,000

25-year-old Alexandra Low was a financial analyst who borrowed money from her friends under various pretexts. She would claim that she had to pay for her house’s downpayment or that she had to pay for her mother’s hospital bills.

She borrowed more than $800,000 from 73 friends, and her ruse was only found out after her friends started talking amongst themselves and finding out that they’ve all lent her money before.

When questioned by the police, Low simply said that she borrowed $800,000 to $900,000 from her friends for breast augmentation procedures.

48YO Woman Who Lost Lawsuit Over NUS Master’s Degree Now Has To Pay Their Insurers $178,000

48-year-old Jeanne-Marie Ten was pursuing a Masters of Arts (Architecture) by research at the NUS School of Design and Environment. She subsequently sued for the degree and damages because she claimed that NUS and various officers colluded against her, thus resulting in her failure to be conferred the degree in 2006.

She lost the lawsuit in July last year because the court rejected all her claims against NUS for negligence, breach of contract, misfeasance of public office and intimidation.

NUS said in a statement: “For the past seven years, the insurers have borne the cost of NUS’ legal defence against the lawsuit commenced by Ms Ten. While the university would not enforce the costs orders, it acknowledges the legal right of the insurers to act in NUS’ name and to enforce against Ms Ten as they deem appropriate.”

Ms Ten now faces a legal costs bill of $177,843.

On-demand Carpool Service Between S’pore And Johor Will Have Strict Regulations; Unlicensed Vehicles Will Be Punished

Sameride is an on-demand carpool service app that allows commuters to travel between Singapore and Johor at a lower cost every day.

However, drivers who are caught providing such services without a valid public service vehicle license (PSVL) could be jailed up to six months and fined up to $3,000. The vehicle used may also be forfeited.

Land Transport Authority (LTA) has warned in a statement that they will take “strong enforcement action” against those who break the law.
