NUS Sets Up Victim Care Unit For Sexual Encounters

Remember the NUS voyeur case that happened earlier this year?

Well, after the big hoo-ha that Monica Baey made because of the punishment the voyeur got, things have changed.

For one, all NUS, NTU and SMU students have to go through mandatory respect and consent modules. In short, no equals no sexy time.

And secondly, NUS has set up a Victim Care Unit (VCU) for victims of sexual encounters.

This will be a safe space where victims can get help from trained professionals to get over their traumatic experience.

They can be reached via a 24-hour hotline, a confidential contact form or through email.

Helping victims isn’t all the case officers will do. The unit will also survey the student population to find out how pervasive sexual misconduct is within the university culture.

Finally, they’re paying more attention to the victim than the perpetrator, or their own school reputation.

S’pore Oldest Water Treatment Plant Gets S$162M Upgrade

Climate change is real and it’s happening right now. And it’s proven that rich or poor, climate change’s the real playing field where it comes to fairness (read: everybody dies).

Which is probably why the Singapore Government, notorious for hoarding the national reserves like Smaug in Lord of the Rings, is pulling out the stops and spending on climate change prevention methods.

They will invest $162 million to upgrade Singapore’s oldest water treatment plant, Choa Chu Kang Waterworks.

With the water quality expected to deteriorate due to climate change, PUB is now trying to adopt new treatment techniques, as well as to upgrade existing water treatment plants, to deal with the fallout.

The upgraded water plant will have its sand filtration system replaced with ceramic membrane filters to better remove microbes and organic matter that shouldn’t be in our drinking water.

The upgrade is expected to take 3 years.

Singapore Police Force Lines Disrupted For 15 Minutes

Most wouldn’t have any reason to know the Singapore Police Force’s (SPF) 999 emergency line and 1800-255-0000 hotline were down yesterday.

After all, we don’t have reasons to call them.

But for those who really needed to reach them on 29 Aug at around noon, they might not be able to do so.

The emergency line, together with the hotline were down for 15 minutes.

During the downtime, the police provided an alternate line (1800-333-0000) for the public to call in cases of emergency.

Insurance Companies To Change Some Definitions Of Critical Illnesses Coverage

Have you purchased any life insurance yet? If you like the current terms, better do so before 26 Aug 2020.

Because by then, insurance policies with the current definitions will no longer be available.

For example, “Deafness (Loss of Hearing)” will be changed to “Deafness (Irreversible Loss of Hearing)”.

With the change, it will only be counted if there is no possibility for your hearing ability to be brought back via medical advancements.

This is one of the few changes that will be made.

In short? If you haven’t bought any life insurance, it might be a good idea to check them out soon.

Man Attacked By Scissors At Toa Payoh Hawker Centre Over Debt

A fact of life: Money spoils relationships.

Another fact of life: While Rich Dad Poor Dad might say otherwise, not all debts are good debts.

A 48-year-old man, Ang Thiam Soon, confronted 62-year-old Tan Seh Kiat because of a debt Tan owed to Ang’s uncle.

The argument escalated and things got violent.

Ang stabbed Tan with a pair of scissors he had on him and chased him to a nearby void deck, stabbed him a few times before he left.

Tan had to go to the hospital and get twelve stitches before he was discharged with three days MC.
