Foreign Worker Dies After Crane Collapses At TTSH Construction Site; One Injured

It was reported that there was a loud boom at 8.30am yesterday and when witnesses looked at the construction site, they noticed that the crane had collapsed. 20 minutes later, one Bangladeshi construction worker can be seen climbing down.

It was said that he had injured his leg and was later sent to the hospital for treatment. An Indian national who was most likely in the collapsed crane died at the scene.

Investigations are still ongoing.

PMDs Will Be Banned On Footpaths Starting 5 November

There will be an advisory period until 31 December for current PMD riders to adjust to this new ban. Those who violate the rules will be given a stern warning.

Starting next year, stricter enforcement will be implemented and those who are caught violating the ban will be fined up to $2,000 and jailed up to three months.

This ban also includes hoverboards and electric unicycles.

25 Fairprice Outlets To Ban Plastic Bags For One Year From 11 November Onwards

From 11 November onwards, 12 Fairprice outlets and 8 Fairprice Xpress outlets will be charging 20 cents for plastic bags while 5 Cheers outlets will be charging 10 cents for plastic bags.

Majority of the customers expressed that they were receptive towards this change in an attempt to save the environment. Others expressed that plastic bags are expected to be given as a service and to line their trash bins.

World’s Best Swiss Hospitality Management School Will Be Opening First International Campus In Singapore

Switzerland’s Ecole hoteliere de Lausanne (ECL) is known to be the world’s number one in hospitality management. They are even dubbed as the Harvard in that field.

They will be opening their new international campus in Singapore in 2021, though the location has yet to be confirmed.

Students who would like to pursue a four-year Bachelor of Science in International Hospitality Management programme can opt to study in Lausanne next year and transfer to the Singapore campus when it’s ready. Tuition fees will be similar to the fees for international students in Lausanne at 110,000 Swiss Francs (~S$151,000) for four years.

Indonesian Embassy Worker Tasked S’porean To Find Insurance Agents Willing To Share Premiums

An Indonesian Embassy worker apparently asked a Singaporean freelance translator to look for insurance agents who were willing to give them a share of their premiums linked to performance bond guarantees for Indonesian domestic helpers.

48-year-old James Yeo Siew Liang represented AIG Asia Pacific Insurance and Liberty Issuance and was found to have bribed 64-year-old translator Abdul Aziz Mohamed Hanib of over $21,000 after meeting through intermediary 56-year-old Benjamin Chow Tuck Keong.

Yeo is also said to have given over $71,000 to Agus Ramdhany Machjumi the Embassy worker who is no longer in Singapore.

Yeo, Aziz and Chow are now on trial, with Yeo and Aziz facing more than 15 graft-related charges each while Chow, one.
