5 ways you can get summon in S’pore that you probably didn’t know

If you have recently got your license, we are sure getting summon wouldn’t be something on your to-do list. After all, Singapore is famous for the numerous fines it imposes on drivers. To help you out, below are 5 ways you can actually get summoned for you probably didn’t know.

When you park a vehicle in an underpass
Not those pedestrian underpasses, but the ones where it sort of looks like a tunnel. An example would be the Bukit Timah Underpass. These underpasses are where cars usually drive at a high speed and any sudden stop will result in a car accident. Plus parking a vehicle there will just result in a jam, and being the culprit of a jam is probably the worst thing that could happen. Just imagine everyone’s death glare when they drive past you.

When you stop on a zig-zag marked road
Ever see those roads where it has zig-zag lines running along the sides before becoming one straight line? Well, never ever stop there. Even if your bladder is bursting or you have the most important call waiting on the line, DO NOT STOP. The zig-zag line is the number one surefire way to get a summon.

When you park within 9 metres of a bus stop
We’re sure many of you have broken this rule at least once. In the event of picking up or dropping off a friend, many of us simply park at the bus stop. We assume that as long as the bus can still come in and move off, everything is fine. But if you ever get caught, you can actually suffer a fine of $70 for light vehicles, and $100 for heavy vehicles.

When you park on the grass verge of the road
Well, though your intentions for doing so might seem legal and right, in the eyes of the law, it’s wrong. Especially since Singapore is so small, there are places where it is so narrow and parking on the grass is the only way to prevent any obstruction to others. But doing so will result in a hefty $70 fine. The same goes for parking alongside a road without any proper reason. Basically, everywhere you park that is not a parking lot will result in a fine.

When you fail to stop the car close to the edge of the left-hand side of the road
This may seem easy, but often times, we tend to stop when we assume we’re close enough to the left side of the road. However, as long as there is a 2-metre gap, you will get a fine. You are required to stop as close to the edge as possible, where cars can breeze past you easily without having to manoeuvre or signal right.
