A wise old man once said, “the inside of your wrist is the most important part of your body.”
Not only is it the place which contains your lifeblood, but it’s also the site where you carry out all your experiments on possible harmful products.
And by experiments, we mean this:
You’re always told to spray or use new products on a small part of your skin first and observe for allergic reactions before buying it.
If you’ve been doing that, it might be a good idea to change the way you test products. At least for perfumes.
New Tests Found 55 Branded Products To Have Substances Causing Allergic Reactions
Now, every time you buy a good product, one that cost you almost or over a hundred bucks, you’d probably expect it not just to be good, but to be safe.
If you’re someone who thinks like that, this new report from Hong Kong might just prove otherwise.
Recently, Hong Kong’s consumer council collected samples from 55 different branded perfumes on the market.
And here’s what they found: all of them contain allergens that can cause allergic reactions.
28 were Eau De Parfum, 23 were Eau de Toilette and 4 were Eau de Cologne.
Chanel No.5 Eau de Perfum Has Highest Amount of Chemicals
According to the report, Chanel No. 5 Eau De Perfum is found to contain 15 chemical fragrances, making it the highest among all the samples.
However, Acqua Di Parma is found to have the highest saturation of allergens at 5.35%. Brands like Giorgio Armani, Tiffany & Co., Valentino and Guerlain were found to have around 3% allergens.
All Samples Contain Amount of Chemicals Stated in the EU Cosmetic Regulations
If the previous point isn’t enough to scare you, there’s more.
All the samples were found to contain Limonene and Linalool.
These two substances, while in smaller quantities, are pretty harmless. However once exposed to air, the chance of the substances causing allergic reactions like rashes and swelling will increase.
Authorities have advised consumers to spray perfumes and colognes on their clothes instead of their skin when they test the products.

But of course, different people have different allergies, so there’s no need to worry too much. For example, my colleague Hao Ge is allergic to our boss, so whenever he sees our boss, he’ll faint.
So just take this as a reference.
