From Kopitiams to the upmarket restaurants along Orchard Road, it’s safe to say that Japanese restaurants have taken over the country by storm – and so has teppanyaki. Despite being less popular than another Japanese cuisine such as sushi or ramen, this grilled dish has amassed its fair share of fans over the years.

And so we scoured the country and picked out 6 teppanyaki restaurants that you should definitely check out!

1. HeNiu Teppanyaki

If you’re looking for something that’s affordable to satisfy your teppanyaki craving, HeNiu Teppanyaki is the place for you. Located at 313’s Food Republic, this eatery is hard to miss – partly due to the delectable aroma of sizzling beef thanks to its open concept kitchen.

Some of their offerings include the Value set ($7.90), which consists of a choice of meat (beef/pork/chicken), vegetables, miso soup and rice, or the Deluxe set ($13.90), which is exactly the same as the value set but with additional grilled seafood.

2. SHIMA Teppanyaki Restaurant

This teppanyaki place might be pricey, but it’s for a good reason.

SHIMA sources their Wagyu ribeyes from the best farms in Kagoshima that can be cooked to preference. Even their accompanying sauces are made in-house – their signature Goma Sauce takes over half a day to prepare!

But their Weekday Teppanyaki Lunch Buffet is a steal at $49.90/pax. Here’s the best part: because it’s a buffet, you can order as much as you want (or can eat) from their menu items. That means free flow sushi and sashimi!

3. Sakae Teppanyaki

The Sakae name has become synonymous with Japanese food in Singapore, but not many people know that they don’t just serve sushi – they offer teppanyaki as well.

Apart from a wide selection of meats to choose from, Sakae Teppanyaki serves live seafood including lobsters, bamboo clams and oysters, and also mushroom and vegetable dishes.

4. Yaki Yaki Bo Teppanyaki Restaurant

This restaurant prides itself on its cosy ambience and affordable dishes. Prepared on a flat griddle right in front of diners, Yaki Yaki Bo dishes up the standard teppanyaki fare of beef and chicken, along with seafood such as shrimp and squid.

Another one of their signature dishes is Okonomiyaki – a Japanese pancake made of flour batter, cabbage and a choice of ingredients such as seafood, scallops, pork and vegetables – so be sure to order that along with your hot plate!

5. Tatsu Sushi

Despite having “sushi” in its name, Tatsu Sushi is also known for its teppanyaki experience – with their Crayfish with Yuzukosho Mayo and Lobster in Special Sauce serving as its trademark dish. Tatsu has seen a fair number of returning diners, so that should speak for itself!

6. Keyaki Japanese Restaurant

Located on the fourth level of the Pan-Pacific Hotel, Keyaki provides its diners with an authentic setting, complete with a Japanese garden and koi pond. The restaurant isn’t one to scrimp on quality, and only uses the freshest ingredients imported straight from Japan – which might explain why it has been a constant award-winner over the years.
