The last time I had accidentally eaten expired food, my stomach and pigu was suffering for days. During that time, the toilet had become my bed, my sofa, my dining table…you get the point.
Thankfully, that painful period soon passed.
However, that may not be the case for young children if they were to eat food that has gone bad–something some people apparently have zero regard for.
A 62-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly replacing several Lilo baby food products with expired ones at two FairPrice Finest outlets.
Lilo is a local company that sells all-natural seasoning powders that are suitable for infants.
Here’s What Happened
In the caption of the Instagram post uploaded by Lilo on 20 January 2025, the company stated that they had received feedback from the FairPrice Finest Outlet at Wisteria Mall that some of their products displayed on the shelves were expired.
This anomaly sparked much concern, as the company usually returns any products before its expiry date to its suppliers, and frequently conducts checks so as to ensure their freshness.
According to the post, Lilo carried out “further checks across other outlets” in response to this. They “found more expired Lilo products” at another FairPrice Finest outlet, at Block 712 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6.
Through CCTV investigations and with the help of FairPrice Finest and the police, the culprit allegedly responsible for this was found and apprehended.
The culprit was a 62-year-old woman, who had switched the unexpired products with expired ones at both FairPrice Finest outlets. She is currently under investigation for shoplifting.
Lilo told Shin Min Daily News that the suspect responsible was neither their staff, nor a staff member at FairPrice Finest, and is believed to have acted alone.
Lilo also shared that this is an isolated incident, and that this has never occurred before.
Should you have purchased any Lilo products from the FairPrice Finest outlets at Wisteria Mall or Block 712 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6, please reach out to the company to seek assistance.
