No matter whether you’re young or old, you’d definitely want to make your way down to the 50¢ Food Fest happening at Chinatown this year.

Some might be in for the ambience, some to relive old memories but here’s one more attractive part of the food fest: food goes for as low as 50 cents.

Here are 8 facts about the food fest that’ll make you want to cancel holiday plans, jio your makan buddies together and just go to the festival.

1. Date and Time of the Food Festival

Of course, you can’t start without giving the most important information first, right? When and where?

This year, the 50¢ Food Fest will be taking place at Chinatown Food Street on a single weekend, 29 & 30 July 2017. The festival will be open from 12pm -11pm on 29 Jul 2017 and 11am-11pm on 30 Jul 2017.

2. It’s Going to be Transformed Into the 80s

Always wanted to know how your parents lived in the past? How they dated? What they eat? 

Here’s your chance to experience it for yourself at the festival itself. Old-school music playing through radio, hawkers dressed like they’re in the 80s and food from the 80s. 

3. Food Cost As Little As 50¢

When the organisers said the 80s, that also means the price of the food. While the full list of food at the festival isn’t announced yet, the organisers did say on the official website that it’ll be affordable. 

4. Why 50¢?

The organisers wanted to remind the people that 50¢ was a huge amount of money back in the past. 

Back then, a cup of coffee cost a mere 5¢. Now, evening finding a 5¢ coin is a big challenge.

5. Don’t Expect Big Portions of Food

If you go there expecting a huge bowl of prawn noodles for just 50¢, you’ll be disappointed because their portions are said to be small. 

However, just think of it this way, this simply means you have more room for the different type of food.

6. Expect Food From Different Dialect Groups

Most times, we only get to eat heritage food from one or two different dialect group. Because your grandma and your girlfriend’s/boyfriend’s grandma.

But at this festival, the official site stated that there will be more than 20 stalls and 10 old-school mobile hawkers present at the festival. 

Think Hokkien Rickshaw Noodle, UFO (Fried Oyster Cake), Hakka Abacus Seed, Red Glutinous Wine Chicken, Teochew Ah Balling, Ice Ball and more!

7. There’s Going to be Old-School Games as well

Put away your smartphones and Mobile Legends and play what your parents (or you) used to play. 

Go play some hopscotch, dedicate a song through the radio for your crush (90s kids, remember this? :D), shop for biscuits at the mama shop and more!
