Those people living in Yishun reading this now must be like “Seriously, Yishun again?”
No, there’s nothing wrong with the place you live in. In fact, I love Yishun and have spent almost half of my life there. The food and people there are amazing – just that you guys are really quite suay lah, to have had so many accidents happening in the same district.
Okay, all jokes aside. Here are 8 of the most recent happenings in Yishun that shows it might not be the safest place to live in after all.
1. Yishun Cat Murders (2015-2016)
There has been quite a number of alleged cat murderers arrested in Yishun, and there was even a man sentenced to 18 months probation for killing a cat. Up till today, there have been more than 50 cases of cat murders in the estate.
2. Yishun Slashing Incident (12th Aug 2016)
Last year, a 23-year-old man got slashed by 3 teens due to a case of a missing phone. The victim accused the 3 individuals of stealing his phone, which then escalated to a slashing incident. The exchange of words soon got into a fight and it was reported that the victim’s head and arm were slashed.
3. Man murdered wife (15th Aug 2016)
On August 15 last year, a 37-year-old man was charged with the murder of his wife. It was said that there were quarrels and screams coming out of the apartment at Yishun Ring Road. Even though the act was unintentional, the man was still charged with a death penalty.
4. 14-year-old Boy Jumps To His Death (31st Jan 2016)
In January last year, a 14-year-old boy jumped off a ledge outside his 14th-floor flat in Yishun. He had allegedly followed the girl into a lift at a block of flats nearby and molested her a few days back. He was interviewed by the police for more than 3 hours before returning home and jumping down the window.
5. Woman puts nude pictures of boyfriend’s ex online (4th July 2016)
Last year in July, a jealous girlfriend got angry after finding nude pictures of the boyfriend’s ex online and decided to publish them on a fake profile. She even used the victim’s real name.
6. Boy falls from flat (2nd April 2016)
A four-year-old fell nine floors from his new home in Yishun Ring Road due to a sad misadventure. He was left alone with his 2-year-old sister and fell out after he accidentally climbed out of the window with the chair left near the window ledge.
7. Man kills married lover, then himself (17th Feb 2016)
A married woman who had an affair with a man 5 years her junior was killed by the man, who later fell to his death.
8. Man molested daughter arrested (1st July 2016)
In July last year, a man was charged on two accounts for molesting his then 12-year-old daughter for around 10 months. He also threatened to kill his estranged wife and chased her along the corridor outside their home.
