A 24-year-old man in Singapore has been sentenced to 12 months’ jail and one stroke of the cane after he molested a long-time female friend while she was intoxicated and asleep.
The man pleaded guilty on Thursday, 1 October 2026, to one of two charges against him. The other charge was taken into consideration during sentencing.
A court gag order is in place to protect the victim’s identity, so details that could identify her cannot be published.
Victim Had Gone to His Home to Drink and Play Games
According to Shin Min Daily News, the victim and the man had known each other for years.
She would sometimes visit his home to play video games and drink alcohol with him.
On 12 December 2025, at about 7pm, she went to his home. The two drank and played games until the early hours of the next morning.
By then, she was intoxicated and fell asleep on his bed.
While she was asleep, the man molested her. Court proceedings heard that she did not consent to what he did.
When she woke up, she realised what was happening and saw that the man was also holding his phone, apparently trying to film the act.
He Pleaded Guilty to One Charge
Shin Min reported that the man faced two charges, including molestation and filming another person’s private parts.
He pleaded guilty to one charge, while the other was considered by the court during sentencing.
He was sentenced to 12 months’ jail and one stroke of the cane.
Mothership, citing Shin Min, reported that the man’s mother cried in court after hearing the sentence.
The judge later allowed the man to speak to his parents for 10 minutes. Shin Min reported that his parents were emotional during the brief meeting before he was taken away.
Why the Victim Is Not Identified
In sexual offence cases, courts may issue gag orders to protect victims from being identified.
In this case, the judge ordered that the media must not publish information that could reveal who the victim is.
That means details such as her name, identifying background information, or other particulars that may point to her identity should not be reported.
