Being Singaporeans, there’s one thing we love more than food—cheap deals. And one big pull factor for Airbnb stays is their cheap prices.
Well, with this article, we’ll add one more pull factor to it: a totally unique experience.
AirBnb, they say, will allow you to experience the local culture like no other. But did you know that there are some Airbnb stays that’s totally out of this world?
Check out these 8 Airbnb stays!
1. A ski lift
You might think that staying in a log cabin surrounded by snow would already be a reasonably interesting experience, but why not go further and stay in a ski lift suspended high above the ground?
Hanging at two thousand seven hundred and forty-three meters above the ground, this is certainly not for those afraid of heights or those easily paranoid, or even those who have to frequently use the bathroom.
Unfortunately, this was only part of a promotional contest by AirBnb and it is likely that we can’t book it. Regardless, it’s still pretty interesting!
2. A whole island
Yes, it is possible to book one whole private island to stay at. It is actually not that exorbitant and if you were expecting it to cost thousands of dollars, you’re wrong!
Many go up to just short of a thousand a night which might sound like a lot to pay for accommodation but hey, you’re getting a whole island to yourself!
How many of us can brag about that experience?
3. An airplane
Surprisingly, an airplane can be beautifully remodelled into a large living space that is extremely sleek and classy on the inside.
If you’ve always harboured dreams of flying on a private jet but could never afford one then you can dream about this, even though the plane will never take off.
4. A Bookstore
Lovers of quaint bookstores and dreamers of inhabiting hipster-looking spaces will definitely enjoy this: an AirBnB that allows you to run a bookstore and live in a small flat above it.
Located in a small cozy Scottish book town, you’ll be right at home here if you love reading and all things literature as you get to be surrounded by books the whole time.
Furthermore, with it being a small town, you get to interact with the residents on a more personal level and gain valuable experiences learning about culture as well.
The fee is ridiculous(ly cheap) at $50SGD a night and this encounter is definitely worth much more than that!
5. Treehouse
Perhaps another childhood fantasy and dream of many of us, you can stay in a treehouse under the stars in the woods.
Decorated beautifully with fairy lights and wooden structures, you’ll feel like you’re in another magical world where all your troubles melt away.
Described by past residents as a truly lovely and magical experience, this is a place you’ll never forget and never want to leave.
6. A large barrel
Ever wanted to stay in a barrel? I’m guessing not, but after reading about this lodging in Canada, you’ll certainly want to.
It’s definitely not spacious and there aren’t a lot of facilities inside, but it definitely makes for an interesting experience.
In addition, it’s located close to a small town that will have all the amenities you require, so you won’t feel so isolated!
I guess this is for those who aren’t fussy about their lodging having lots of space, but rather want to treasure an unconventional experience.
7. A tiny playhouse
As far as unconventional goes, this probably tops the charts. This tiny house only cost 1 euro a night, but you really get what you pay for — it’s 1 square metres ‘big’.
Unfortunately, it’s no longer available for renting but it was popular when it was up and bookable, and I think there’s certainly some thrill that comes with it.
In order to use it for multiple purposes, you simply have to rotate it so that you can sit or lie down comfortably.
Of course, it’s not as impressive as a complete apartment with bathrooms and all but it’s certainly ingenious and a novelty.
Who knows, maybe such a concept will appear in Singapore for us to try out!
8. A Bus
We might be familiar with sleeping on bus rides to Malaysia, but have you ever wanted to really legitimately sleep in a bus? Well now, you can do so by renting a bus in New Orleans that is equipped with beds and a kitchenette!
The inside is surprisingly not as squeezy as you’d think and it would make for an unforgettable experience.
It’s cozy and while it might be a little crowded with a family, you’ll certainly have opportunities to bond in the small space and learn to get along with each other.
Definitely not as glam and pristine as a hotel room but 100% more fun and unique.
