Well, now, there’s news of a new virus that’s “deadlier” than Covid-19, and it’s at Kazakhstan, 6,276km away from Singapore.
Chinese Embassy in Kazakhstan Warns of an Unknown Pneumonia That’s Deadlier Than COVID-19
On 9 July, it was reported that the Chinese Embassy in Kazakhstan released a statement to Chinese people living in the country on its WeChat platform.
They announced that in Kazakhstan, there’s a pneumonia of unknown cause currently spreading in the country.
It’s deadlier than Covid-19, the embassy said, with 1,772 deaths within the first six months of spread.
In June 2020 alone, 628 people died to the pneumonia, including Chinese citizens.
Organisations including Kazakhstan’s health authorities are looking into the virus.
It Spreads Fast Too
Apparently, the media in Kazakhstan reported that since mid-June, almost 500 people were infected with the virus in three different regions.
There are over 30 people in critical conditions.
It’s early July now, by the way.
Kazakhstan’s healthcare minister was also reported as saying that the number of patients who got infected by the pneumonia with an unknown cause is “two-to-three” times more than Covid-19.
The minister added that by next week, they’ll start publishing the tally of cases, citing the need for the public to know.
Current Covid-19 Situation In Kazakhstan
According to John Hopkin’s interactive map, Kazakhstan has 54,747 Covid-19 cases with 246 deaths at the time of writing.
The country is carrying out almost 14,000 tests a day and the foreign ministry of the country said that the Covid-19 situation in the country is “under control”.
Experts Say China Should Take Measures
Kazakhstan is located just beside Northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
And experts are recommending that measures must be taken to prevent the unknown virus from spreading into China.
Meanwhile, the Chinese embassy’s statement to Chinese citizens living in Kazakhstan is to raise their awareness about the issue as well as the measures to protect themselves from the virus.
