A pilot made a plane full of Argentina supporters believe their country had won the 2026 World Cup, allowed them to celebrate, and then revealed that Spain had actually lifted the trophy.
The viral prank has divided viewers between those who found the perfectly timed deception hilarious and those who thought it was unnecessarily cruel.

The Pilot Let the Fans Celebrate Before Finishing His Announcement
The incident reportedly took place during a flight on Sunday, 19 July 2026, while Spain and Argentina were playing in the World Cup final.
UnoTV reported that the travellers were unable to follow the match while they were in the air.
In a video uploaded by TikTok user @williermina, the pilot could be heard making an announcement through the aircraft’s public address system.
He explained that the match had been closely contested and had gone into extra time. He then said that both teams had given everything, but only one could win a World Cup final.
The pilot began congratulating the Argentine passengers.
Before he could complete the announcement, supporters wearing Argentina jerseys stood up, raised their arms, shouted and began singing in celebration.
A few seconds later, the pilot delivered the actual result: Spain had won the World Cup.
The cheering immediately stopped and the cabin became almost completely silent.
The aircraft may have been stable, but the emotional turbulence was quite something.
As of 22 July 2026, the airline, flight route and pilot’s identity have not been publicly confirmed by reliable sources.

The passengers interrupted him with their celebrations before he technically finished delivering the result.
Some social media users therefore regarded it as clever rather than malicious. Comments cited by People praised the pilot’s sense of humour, with one user saying he deserved a medal.
The false hope also lasted only a few seconds. The pilot did not allow the passengers to spend the rest of the flight believing they were world champions.
Why Others Thought It Was Cruel
The passengers had no immediate way to verify the information, and a pilot speaking through an aircraft’s official announcement system is normally someone travellers expect to trust.

There is no evidence that the aircraft shown in the prank video was one of those special flights.
