About 120 People Evacuated After Fire at Yakiniku Like in Junction 8

About 120 people were evacuated after a fire broke out at Yakiniku Like in Junction 8 on Tuesday evening (11 August).

One employee from a neighbouring business was taken to Singapore General Hospital for medical assessment after experiencing discomfort following smoke exposure. No other injuries were reported.

Fire Involved a Grill and Exhaust Ducting

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to the fire at 9 Bishan Place, the address of Junction 8, at about 7.10pm.

According to SCDF, the fire involved a table grill and exhaust ducting inside the restaurant’s dining area on the first floor.

Firefighters put out the blaze using a hose reel. Police officers and SCDF personnel evacuated about 120 people from the affected building as a precaution.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Yakiniku Like Outlet Temporarily Closed

Junction 8’s safety systems, including its automatic sprinkler system and fire curtain, were activated after the mall received an alert about the fire, a mall spokesperson told The Straits Times.

The rest of Junction 8 remains open and is operating normally.

Yakiniku Like said its Junction 8 restaurant would remain temporarily closed while inspections and safety assessments were conducted.

The chain is cooperating with the authorities and mall management. It is also carrying out additional checks at its other Singapore outlets and reviewing its existing safety procedures.
