SimplyGo Has Fixed a Pre-Peak Discount Glitch That Hit 210,000 Journeys a Day

Some commuters who tapped into the rail network before the morning pre-peak fare cut-off on 20 and 21 August 2026 may have noticed something missing: their discount.

SimplyGo said it has resolved an issue that prevented the morning pre-peak rail fare discount from being activated for SimplyGo EZ-Link and bank card transactions during those two days.

The company said the issue was caused by a configuration error, affecting an average of 210,000 journeys each day.

Issue Has Been Resolved

SimplyGo announced the issue on Facebook on Friday, 21 August, and said on Saturday, 22 August, that the problem had been fixed.

The company said commuters will now see the correct fares, including any eligible discounts, in the SimplyGo app. It added that the fare shown in the app is the fare that will be charged.

This means commuters do not need to worry that the temporary display issue will result in a different fare being charged later.

Some commuters had earlier raised the issue online, including on Reddit. One commuter said they had tapped in at 7.44am, before the cut-off time, but noticed that the pre-peak discount was not reflected.

Some Instagram users also asked SimplyGo about refunds. In response, SimplyGo reiterated that commuters can check the corrected fare and eligible discounts in the app, which reflects the fare that will be charged.

How The Morning Discount Works

Under the Morning Pre-Peak Fares scheme, commuters who tap into any rail station before 7.45am on weekdays receive a discount of up to S$0.50.

The scheme does not apply on public holidays. The discount amount is either S$0.50 or the fare for the train journey, whichever is lower.

The scheme was introduced in December 2017 as a way to encourage commuters to travel before the morning peak period.

So, for commuters who are already sprinting towards the gantry before 7.45am, the discount can make that early start slightly more worthwhile.

What Commuters Can Do

SimplyGo said affected commuters who still have queries can contact its hotline at 6883 5048 from 8am to 6pm daily, excluding public holidays.

SimplyGo is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Land Transport Authority (LTA) that provides transit ticketing and travel card-related services. It was established in 2024 through the merger of EZ-Link and TransitLink.

The company apologised for the inconvenience caused by the issue.

For commuters who travelled during the affected period, the key thing to check is the updated fare shown in the SimplyGo app. According to SimplyGo, that corrected amount is the fare that will be charged.
