A 25-year-old man is expected to be charged with murder on Monday, 31 August, after a 29-year-old man was found dead on a road in Tuas.
According to the police, they received a call for assistance along Tuas South Street 15 towards Tuas South Avenue 14 at about 10.10pm on Saturday, 29 August.
Officers who arrived at the scene found the 29-year-old man lying motionless on the road.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by a Singapore Civil Defence Force paramedic.
Suspect Arrested Within Four Hours
Police said the 25-year-old man was arrested within four hours of the report.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect and the deceased knew each other. No further details about their relationship or the circumstances leading to the man’s death have been released.
Police investigations are ongoing.
The suspect has not been convicted, and the case is expected to come before the court on Monday.
Murder Charge Carries the Death Penalty
CNA reported that the 25-year-old is expected to be charged with murder.
Mothership, citing a police news release, reported that the intended charge is under Section 302(1) of the Penal Code 1871.
Under Singapore’s current Penal Code, Section 302(1) states that a person who commits murder within the meaning of Section 300(a), where the act causing death is done with the intention of causing death, is punishable with death.
Further details of the allegation are expected to emerge when the man is formally charged in court.
