COE Prices Fall Across All Categories; Cat A Drops From Record High to S$131,890

After hitting some rather painful highs earlier this month, Certificate of Entitlement (COE) premiums have gone down across the board.

All five COE categories recorded lower premiums in the latest bidding exercise on Wednesday (23 Sep).

And yes, that includes Category A, which had just set a new record two weeks ago.

Category A Falls From Record High

Category A COE premiums closed at S$131,890, down S$1,119 from the previous exercise’s record of S$133,009.

Category A generally covers smaller and less powerful cars, namely cars with engines of up to 1,600cc and a maximum power output of 130bhp.

The previous S$133,009 premium, recorded on 9 Sep, had surpassed the earlier record of S$129,000 set in July 2026.

So while S$131,890 is still an eye-watering amount of money, at least it is no longer an all-time high.

Category B Down S$2,001

Category B, which covers larger and more powerful cars, saw a bigger decline.

Its premium fell S$2,001, from S$135,001 to S$133,000.

Commercial vehicles under Category C also became slightly cheaper, with premiums falling S$957 from S$93,101 to S$92,144.

Motorcycle COEs under Category D dropped by S$355, from S$12,556 to S$12,201.

Meanwhile, the Open Category, or Category E, fell S$890 to S$137,000, compared with S$137,890 previously. Category E COEs can technically be used for most vehicle types, although they are typically used for larger cars.

In short, the latest prices are:

Category A: S$131,890, down S$1,119

Category B: S$133,000, down S$2,001

Category C: S$92,144, down S$957

Category D: S$12,201, down S$355

Category E: S$137,000, down S$890

More Than 4,200 Bids Received

A total of 4,210 bids were received in the latest exercise, while 3,229 COEs were available.

The COE quota for the August to October 2026 period stands at 19,085, just 0.2% higher than the 19,052 COEs available in the previous three-month period.

The across-the-board decline comes after every category rose in the previous bidding exercise on 9 Sep.

Back then, Category A reached its record S$133,009, Category B climbed to S$135,001 and motorcycles jumped to S$12,556.

For anyone hoping to buy a car, therefore, the good news is that COE premiums did fall this time.

The less-good news is that a Category A COE still costs more than S$130,000.
