A man has been ordered to repay about S$321,000 he received from his former girlfriend after the High Court ruled that he failed to prove the money was given as unconditional gifts.
The dispute involved multiple sums transferred by the woman to the man during their relationship. The man argued that the money was given out of love and was not meant to be repaid.
However, the High Court found that he had not provided enough evidence to show that the transfers were intended as gifts.
Court Finds Money Was Not Proven To Be Unconditional Gifts
The High Court heard that the woman had given the man about S$321,000 during their relationship.
The man claimed that the amounts were gifts given voluntarily by his former girlfriend and that there was no agreement for him to return the money.
However, the court found that the circumstances surrounding the transfers did not support his claim that the money was intended to be given without conditions.
As a result, the man was ordered to repay the amount.
Relationship Dispute Led To Legal Battle
The case arose after the couple’s relationship ended and the woman sought to recover the money.
