Singapore sprint star Shanti Pereira won the silver medal in the women’s 100m final at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, adding another major Games medal to her career.
The 30-year-old finished second in the final at Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium on Friday, 25 September, recording a time of 11.21 seconds. Her timing was reported to be 0.01 seconds away from her national record of 11.20 seconds.
The result came after Pereira entered the final as the fastest qualifier from the semi-finals, where she clocked 11.28 seconds.
Pereira’s silver medal in Aichi-Nagoya follows her breakthrough performance at the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou in 2023.
At the 2023 Games, she won silver in the women’s 100m after running 11.27 seconds in the final. China’s Ge Manqi won gold with 11.23 seconds, while Bahrain’s Hajar Saad Saeed Saad Alkhadi took bronze with 11.35 seconds.
She also won gold in the women’s 200m at the 2023 Asian Games, becoming the first Singaporean to win an athletics gold medal at the event in nearly five decades.
With her latest 100m silver, Pereira now has three Asian Games athletics medals: 100m silver in 2023, 200m gold in 2023, and 100m silver in 2026.
Strong Build-Up Before Final
Pereira had a strong run through the rounds in Aichi-Nagoya.
In the 100m heats on 24 September, she clocked 11.43 seconds to finish second in her heat behind China’s Chen Yujie, who ran 11.41 seconds.
She then produced the fastest qualifying time in the semi-finals, running 11.28 seconds to secure her place in the final.
The sprinter is also scheduled to compete in the women’s 200m at the Games, where she entered as the defending Asian Games champion from Hangzhou.
Pereira’s Reaction
Before the final, Pereira told reporters after her heat that she had executed her race as planned and that winning a podium finish in both sprint events was her goal at the Games.
After securing another Asian Games medal, Pereira’s latest result continues a period of strong performances on the international stage, including her 2023 Asian Games double-medal campaign and recent appearances at major competitions.
