A white van nearly hit pedestrians at a Sengkang junction before crashing into a traffic-light pole and driving off.
The incident happened on Wednesday night, 30 September, near the junction of Compassvale Street and Punggol Road.
Dashcam footage of the accident was posted by SG Road Vigilante and later reported by AsiaOne and Mothership.
Van Mounted Traffic Island Near Pedestrians
The footage shows the van turning onto Compassvale Street from Punggol Road.
According to AsiaOne, two pedestrians were waiting at the traffic island at the time.
As the van made the turn, it mounted the traffic island and moved towards the pedestrian area. One pedestrian can be seen stepping away as the vehicle came close.
The van then hit a cantilever traffic-light pole.
The impact caused the mounted signal lights to fall, with debris seen on the road after the crash.
Driver Reversed and Left the Scene
Mothership reported that after hitting the pole, the van slowly reversed with part of its damaged bumper dragging on the road.
The vehicle then drove away from the scene.
No injuries were reported in the available public reports.
Police are reportedly looking for the driver of the white Toyota van, according to AsiaOne.
Police Report Required When Government Property Is Damaged
AsiaOne also reported that under the Road Traffic Act, a traffic accident report must be lodged when an accident involves damage to government property.
In this case, the traffic-light pole was damaged after the collision.
The cause of the accident has not been established in public reports. There has also been no official confirmation of intoxication or impairment, so such speculation should not be repeated as fact.
