A three-storey terrace house near Kovan caught fire on Saturday evening, 3 October, with two people leaving the unit before firefighters arrived.
No injuries were reported.
The fire happened at Park Villas Green, in the Serangoon Gardens area. The Singapore Civil Defence Force was alerted to the fire at about 6:20pm.
Fire Involved Items on the First Floor
When SCDF firefighters arrived, they saw smoke coming from a three-storey terrace house.
The fire involved items on the first floor of the unit. Firefighters later extinguished the blaze using three water jets.
Photos posted on the Singapura Channel Facebook page and cited by 8world showed flames at the affected unit, with smoke spreading around the scene.
Two people had already evacuated before SCDF arrived. SCDF told 8world that nobody was injured in the incident.
Firefighters Continued Cooling the Scene
After the fire was put out, firefighters continued wetting down the affected area to lower the temperature and prevent the fire from restarting.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
This is not the first reported landed-home fire in the Kovan area in recent weeks. In early September, a house at Simon Lane caught fire, leaving one person taken to hospital for smoke inhalation and damaging a neighbouring home.
SCDF Has Reminded Residents About Home Fire Risks
SCDF has reminded residents that common causes of residential fires include unattended cooking, electrical fires, and unattended lighted materials.
Residents are advised not to leave cooking unattended, to keep stoves, cooker hoods and ovens clean, and to avoid overloading power sockets. SCDF also advises against charging electronic devices overnight when nobody is monitoring them.
For items such as incense, candles and cigarettes, SCDF’s advice is to ensure they are fully extinguished before disposal.
