73-Year-Old Man Dies, Another Injured in Telok Blangah Heights Incident; 32-Year-Old Man Arrested

A 73-year-old man died after an incident at Telok Blangah Heights on Monday evening, 5 October, while another man was injured.

A 32-year-old man has been arrested and is expected to be charged with murder on Wednesday, 7 October.

Police said they received calls for assistance near Block 61 Telok Blangah Heights at about 6pm and arrived within 10 minutes.

Two Men Taken to SGH

When officers arrived, they found a 73-year-old man lying motionless and a 53-year-old man injured at the ground floor of the block.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force said both men were taken to Singapore General Hospital.

Police said the 53-year-old man was conscious when he was taken to hospital.

The 73-year-old man later died.

32-Year-Old Man Later Called Police to Surrender

According to police, the 32-year-old man later called the police to surrender.

He was arrested in the vicinity.

Police said he is believed to have acted alone. They also said there is currently no evidence to suggest that the incident was religiously motivated or an act of terror.

Investigations are ongoing.

He Will Be Charged With Murder

The 32-year-old man will be charged with murder under Section 302(1) of the Penal Code on 7 October.

Under Singapore law, murder under that section carries the death penalty if the accused person is convicted.

At this stage, he has not been convicted. The charge will be dealt with in court.

Scene Was Cordoned Off

The Straits Times reported that when its reporters reached the area at about 10.50pm, police had cordoned off several areas, including the coffee shop at Block 61, the void deck at Block 57 and part of the open-air car park between the blocks.

The report also said bloodstains were seen along the road and at the void deck, and that evidence markers had been placed at the open-air car park.

A store assistant at the coffee shop told The Straits Times that he saw a bloodied man running towards the coffee shop at around 6pm. Another nearby worker said an injured man ran into a clinic next to the coffee shop.

Lianhe Zaobao reported that the three men were understood to be unknown to one another, and that police recovered a knife believed to have been used in the incident.
