A 32-year-old man has been charged with murder after a 73-year-old man died following an incident at Telok Blangah Heights on 5 October.
Gabriel Foong Shi Cheng was charged in court on Wednesday, 7 October with murder under Section 302(1) of the Penal Code.
He was ordered to be remanded at the Changi Prison Complex Medical Centre for psychiatric assessment. His case will be mentioned again on 28 October.
73-Year-Old Man Died After Telok Blangah Incident
Police said they received calls for assistance at about 6pm on 5 October near Block 61 Telok Blangah Heights.
When officers arrived, they found a 73-year-old man lying motionless at the ground floor of the block. A 53-year-old man was also found injured nearby.
Both men were taken to hospital. The 73-year-old man later died, while the 53-year-old man was conscious when conveyed to hospital.
The accused later called the police to surrender and was arrested in the vicinity.
Police said the man is believed to have acted alone, and there is currently no evidence to suggest that the incident was religiously motivated or an act of terror.
Murder Charge Carries Death Penalty
Foong faces one charge of murder under Section 302(1) of the Penal Code 1871.
Under Singapore law, a person convicted of murder may face the death penalty.
The case remains before the courts, and the accused has not been convicted.
Police investigations are ongoing.
