Singaporean Teen, 17, Airlifted From Hong Kong’s Lion Rock After Feeling Unwell

A 17-year-old Singaporean girl was rescued by helicopter from Hong Kong’s Lion Rock on the morning of 10 October 2026 after becoming unwell during a hike with two friends.

She was flown to a helipad in Wan Chai before an ambulance took her to Ruttonjee Hospital for treatment.

Had Set Off To Watch The Sunrise

HK01 reported that the teenager was an exchange student at Hong Kong Polytechnic University and that her two companions were classmates.

Speaking to Sing Tao, the girl said they had started their outing from Tsz Wan Shan at around 5am to catch the sunrise from Lion Rock. It was her first time climbing the mountain, which stands 495 metres high.

According to Sing Tao’s account of the interview, the group had spent about an hour on the mountain when she began feeling very cold. She subsequently vomited, and a classmate contacted family for help.

Friend’s Mother Alerted Police

Police received the call at about 6:50am from the mother of one of the other hikers, according to the South China Morning Post’s report citing police.

Her daughter had contacted her after the Singaporean teenager became unwell.

Emergency responders gathered at Lion Rock Country Park in Wong Tai Sin, and a Government Flying Service helicopter was deployed to retrieve the girl.

HK01 reported that ambulance personnel accompanied her as she walked to the ambulance after landing in Wan Chai. The outlet also reported that her condition was not serious after she was taken to hospital.
