A couple who repeatedly abused their eight-month-old son pleaded guilty on 12 October 2026 to offences linked to his death in September 2024.
Chloe Gan Ci Xuan, 23, and Neo Jia Ming, 27, admitted to regularly shaking or smothering their son, Trevor Neo, to stop his crying.
Mother Admitted Causing Death, Father Admitted Allowing It
Gan pleaded guilty to three charges: causing her son’s death, ill-treating him and permitting his father’s ill-treatment.
Neo admitted four charges: allowing the child’s death, ill-treating him, permitting Gan’s ill-treatment and assaulting her.
Baby Died In September 2024
The court heard that Gan smothered Trevor and left him face down on 1 September 2024. Neo knew she was abusing him but did not intervene.
The baby was pronounced dead at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital at about 12:20am on 2 September. An autopsy could not establish a definitive cause of death.
Sentencing Set For 21 October
Prosecutors sought 14 to 15 years’ jail for Gan and 15 to 16 years for Neo.
The defence sought 12½ to 13 years for Gan, and seven years and seven weeks for Neo.
Justice Hoo Sheau Peng adjourned the case to consider their sentences. They will be sentenced on 21 October.
