Three men have been arrested over allegedly using stolen debit and credit card details to buy electronics, with two caught at Changi Airport before departing Singapore.
Police believe the suspects, aged 25, 27 and 36, are linked to a transnational scam syndicate.
Return Visit Raised Staff Suspicions
Police received a call for assistance from a shop along Rochor Canal Road at about 7:45pm on 26 October.
The 36-year-old had allegedly bought two graphics cards worth more than S$2,700 using a mobile wallet. About an hour later, he returned and tried to buy other IT components worth over S$4,000.
Staff grew suspicious and alerted security officers, who detained him and called police.
Preliminary investigations indicated that he received instructions through a mobile app to make the purchases. Police said he allegedly handed the first batch of goods to accomplices waiting in a vehicle before returning to the shop.
Two Suspects Arrested Before Departure
Investigators used CCTV and police camera images to identify the two younger suspects, who had left in a rented vehicle.
They were arrested separately in Changi Airport’s transit area on 27 October. Police also linked them to at least one other alleged payment fraud case at another shop.
Officers seized GeForce RTX 5070 graphics cards, an iPhone 18 Pro Max and other phones as evidence.
In its 27 October statement, police said all three would be charged on 28 October with abetment of conspiracy to cheat. The offence carries up to 10 years’ jail and a fine.
