Go-Ahead Singapore is investigating after a man allegedly threatened and verbally abused a bus captain on service 136 along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6 on Wednesday (4 November).
Why the Bus Captain Kept the Doors Closed
Go-Ahead said its preliminary investigation found that the man was waiting at the stop and gestured for the captain to move the bus forward. The captain signalled for him to wait as the bus was about to pull into the bay.
A concrete barrier at the entrance to the stop made it unsafe for passengers to get on or off at that point, the operator said. The captain kept the doors closed.
After boarding, the man allegedly began verbally abusing the captain, who tried to explain why he had kept the doors closed.
AsiaOne reported that a video showed the man standing beside the captain while the bus was moving. He raised his voice, leaned forward with clenched fists and made a punching motion in the space in front of the captain.
Go-Ahead said the exchange ended about two minutes later when the man moved towards the back of the bus.
Go-Ahead Could Refer the Matter to the Authorities
Go-Ahead said it was reviewing footage from the bus’s security cameras and could refer the matter to the relevant authorities. It said it was giving the captain its full support. It said it does not tolerate abuse of its bus captains.
