SIA Unveils Business Class Privacy Doors & First Class Double Beds in S$2 Billion-Plus Upgrade

Singapore Airlines (SIA) has unveiled new long-haul cabins with sliding privacy doors in Business Class for the first time and First Class centre seats that can join together to form a double bed.

The airline announced the designs on 6 November 2026, as part of an investment exceeding S$2 billion in new seats across First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy.

Passengers will start seeing the new cabins progressively from the second half of 2027.

Business Class Gets Doors & More Sleeping Space

The new Business Class seats will have sliding doors and electrically adjustable dividers between the centre seats. Passengers travelling together can open up their space, while those seeking privacy can keep it closed.

The seats convert into fully flat beds about 201cm long and up to 61cm wide. Selected centre seats can also be arranged as companion beds when the divider is lowered.

There is a practical change around passengers’ feet, too. The redesigned table stows away at an angle, creating a larger footwell and more room to change sleeping positions.

Smart cabin controls will also remember preferred seat settings across journeys.

First Class Centre Seats Become a Double Bed

First Class will have curved sliding doors, with the divider between its centre seats able to retract fully on request.

Those two seats can then become a shared sofa or a double bed measuring about 203cm long and 152cm wide. SIA describes it as the largest double bed in commercial aviation.

The cabin also allows travel companions to dine face to face. The new First Class product will be installed on Boeing 777-9 and Airbus A350-900 ultra-long-range aircraft.

Which Aircraft Get the New Cabins?

The rollout covers 41 retrofitted Airbus A350-900 long-haul and ultra-long-range aircraft, as well as SIA’s new Boeing 777-9s.

The Boeing 777-9 will feature all four new cabin designs. The retrofitted A350s will receive the new Business Class seats, while the ultra-long-range A350s will introduce First Class for the first time.

On the Boeing 777-9, Premium Economy will have a seat pitch of about 102cm, meaning the distance between the same point on successive rows. Features include adjustable headrests, leg and foot supports, and holders for personal devices.

Economy will get redesigned seat cushions, adjustable headrests and a revised reclining mechanism intended to give passengers more space around their knees and calves.

The A350s’ Economy and Premium Economy seat designs will remain unchanged.

As for whether the investment means higher fares, SIA chief commercial officer Lee Lik Hsin told Lianhe Zaobao that there was no direct link. He said ticket prices were determined by market supply and demand, rather than the aircraft type.
