A man left his flat behind with four cats still inside, and as you would expect, the flat looks like it has been through war.

Here’s what you need to know.

Man Abandoned Ang Mo Kio HDB Flat; Has Not Returned in Four Months

It’s not every day you see people abandoning their flats in Singapore—housing prices are a real pain. Buy the flat already, might as well make full use of it.

However, one particular resident staying at Ang Mo Kio stands out in this respect. According to Shin Min Daily News, the uncle hasn’t returned to his HDB flat in over four months.

Our man of the hour resides in a two-room flat on the sixth floor of Block 314, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3.

It’s not Yishun, but it’s an Yishun-esque story.

The uncle‘s next-door neighbour shared that the uncle would usually walk past her unit whenever he was returning home. However, the 33-year-old resident recently noticed that the uncle had not passed by her unit in more than four months.

Several notices were also stuffed into the gaps between the abandoned unit’s windows that haven’t been cleared in a while. This includes a letter from NEA and another from the police.

Evidently, the flat’s owner hasn’t returned in quite some time. Either that or this is an elaborate Houdini-esque disappearing act.

With any hope, the uncle is safe.

Pungent Stench From HDB Flat; Four Cats Abandoned Inside

Even though there’s no one in the flat, the flat has still managed to cause trouble for the residents staying on the same floor. What do you get when you put an abandoned flat and four cats together?

Well, the residents staying on the same floor as the abandoned unit would surely get this right—an unbearable stench.

As the flat hasn’t been cleaned in months and four cats owned by the flat’s owner roam about in the abandoned unit, it’s only natural that the unit will start to stink.

Unable to stand the stench and concerned for her neighbour’s safety, the uncle‘s next-door neighbour notified the police.

Police Forcibly Enter Flat to Find Piles of Garbage and Two Cats

Pursuant to the police report, police decided to enter the HDB flat forcibly.

However, all they were greeted by were piles of garbage and two of the owner’s four cats. It is unclear where the other two cats are.

Furniture, garbage, and items were strewn over the unit’s floor. Several dead cockroaches were also spotted on the floor. It’s clear that this unit was abandoned—it looks like a warzone.

But hey, at least now we know the stench isn’t coming from something that will turn this into a true crime story, you know?

A resident on the same floor shared that the unit had always had a stench since the uncle moved in two years ago. Apparently, this was because the uncle moved in with a cat but did not take good care of the cat.

Goody Feed’s blue cat will not approve of this.

While complaints have been lodged to the National Environment Agency (NEA) and Housing & Development Board (HDB) about the flat’s stench several times, whenever the authorities came knocking, the flat was empty as the uncle was out.

The supply of “neighbours from hell” is endless.

Residents Found Dead in Own Homes

Fortunately, these residents’ complaints to the police about stenches didn’t wind up with them finding out that a body was decomposing in the unit right next to theirs.

Earlier this month, a 54-year-old man who lived alone was found dead in his Serangoon flat after neighbours complained of a pungent smell emanating from the flat. Just last month, the body of an 80-year-old woman was found decomposing in her Holland Drive HDB flat.

That’s not all.

Last year, HDB contractors forcibly entered a Toa Payoh flat and found human skeletal remains, and in 2020, the remains of a woman were found in a condominium unit more than a year after she had passed away.

We’re glad this story didn’t wind up with such an ending.
