Nowadays, it seems that everyone uses the term ‘depressed’ rather flippantly.

“Oh no, Koi has closed for the day… I’m depressed.”

“Oh no she rejected my love letter. Depress much.”

“Oh no I just got laid. I feel depressed.”

Now make no mistake; I understand that they’re jokes and everything. However, it’s just that depression’s so much more than a mere state of mind. It’s a mental illness…

Something you have to contend with every day of your life.

That’s what depression truly is.

And really, if you were to understand the extreme depths a depressed individual would go to, you wouldn’t chortle anywhere as vibrantly at ‘depressed’ memes. Because let’s face it, we would never be able to laugh at things…

If they were a matter of life and death, as this article exemplifies.

Arrived At Clinic In An Almost Lifeless State

According to SinChew, over in Malaysia, a 3-month-old baby girl was brought to Klinik Kesihatan Cheneh at around 11.30 am, on 11 September 2019. Arriving in a seemingly almost lifeless state, doctors proceeded to check the baby’s body, only to discover bruises that suggested she had been abused.

The doctors then attempted to salvage the baby’s life, but it proved too late.

The baby passed away despite their best efforts.

But Wait… What Exactly Happened?

According to the father of the baby, he had gone home to deliver food to his wife at around 10am when he saw their daughter next to his wife. When he asked his wife whether she wanted to eat, she simply answered:

“I sent our daughter to Heaven.”

Shocked, he checked on their daughter, who was unconscious and brought her to the clinic.

Apparently, his wife’s suffering from depression.

The police have since interrogated the father, mother as well as the medical staff at the clinic. Further investigations, however, will depend on the post-mortem results. But whatever the results are, one thing’s clear:

A life’s gone. Forever.

Rest in peace, little one. And whatever happens from hereon…

We hope that better times will lie ahead for the family.

It Happened Before In Singapore

On 20 Aug last year (2018), 69-year-old Tang Soh Ha was found dead at the foot of Block 560, Pasir Ris Street 51. He had stabbed his intellectually disabled daughter to death before leaping to his own demise, and had reportedly believed that ending their lives would solve his concerns over her future.

According to Channel NewsAsia, Mr Tang had been treated for depression, and was previously diagnosed with bipolar mood disorder and delirium. He also struggled with sleep two weeks before the murder, and would reportedly think about the future of his daughter.

Deemed the common cold of mental health issues, depression is ranked by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as the single largest contributor to global disability.

  • Insomnia. For some people, on the contrary, they find that they are sleeping more than normal.
  • Feeling restless and agitated more easily.
  • Feeling tired and having little energy.
  • Unable to concentrate and think clearly and thereby becoming indecisive.
