In today’s day and age, most of us have probably grown accustomed to paying via electronic means like PayNow and PayLah.
But if you’re anything like me, you’d constantly check if you keyed in the correct amount before hitting the “transfer” button.
Unfortunately, mistakes still happen occasionally when customers accidentally key in the wrong amount of money to pay vendors.
Thankfully, some stores try and find customers who overpay for their items in order to give them a refund.
Like this particular Teochew noodle store that put out an announcement after a customer paid $400 instead of $4 for noodles.
In a Facebook post dated 12 May, Ah Gong Teochew Noodle uploaded a screenshot of a customer transferring $400 via PayNow onto its page.
In the post, the operator announced they had found someone who transferred $400 to them instead of $4 for noodles.
The customer, who was identified as “Ong ××× ×××, Mande” by the store’s finance team, had overpaid $396 when they visited the stall last Friday (12 May) between 12 to 2.30 pm.
However, the finance team was unable to find out which branch the customer had patronised.
For the unaware, the store has three outlets.
They are at Whampoa, Bukit Canberra and Golden Mile Food Centre respectively.
Stall Intends to Issue Refund to Customer
In the same post, the operator then asked the customer in question to come forth so that the stall could process a refund.
The operator even thanked the customer for visiting their stall and said they understand that money is “hard to earn” these days.
Stall Will be Donating Money if it Remains Unclaimed by the End of 2023
However, the operator also revealed what Ah Gong Teochew Noodle will be doing with the money if it remains unclaimed by the end of this year.
The operator explained that if no one claims the $396 by the end of this year, the store will donate the full amount to its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) campaign, allowing them “to give to the needy”.
How to Contact the Stall if You Are the Customer
And if you happen to be the customer (or know the customer), here’s how to contact the store.
The stall provided two forms of contact: One can either contact Desmond via phone at 81168188 or email the store at [email protected] to notify Ah Gong Teochew Noodle that they are the customer who accidentally paid them $400.
“We will pass the instruction to the nearest outlet at your [convenience]”, the post explained.
The individual will then be able to receive their refund of $396 via cash or PayNow once they provide Ah Gong Teochew Noodle with verification of their identity.
The post ended with Ah Gong Teochew Noodle encouraging members of the public to share the post so that it can reach more people.

Similar Incidents in the Past
And it seems like this isn’t the first time an incident like this has happened in Singapore.
In January this year, a customer accidentally paid $450 for a $4.50 bowl of ban mian via Paylah!, another form of electronic banking.
The store, Xiao Mei Ban Mian, also took to Facebook to search for the customer.
Eventually, the operator contacted NETS, which allowed the stall to make a refund of $445.50 to the customer after filling in a form.
Over in TikTok, there’s a drama involving property agents that’s caused by us. Here’s what happened:
