The Covid-19 outbreak is forcing us to change the way we do many things.

Before the pandemic, many people conveniently “forgot” to wash their hands after using the toilet, but now they wash their hands every four minutes.

And Singaporeans used to drink at least 43 bubble teas a day, but have had to cut down due to the closure of these stores.

The world also looks a little different when you walk outside and see that everyone has half their face covered by a garment.

But nothing is as weird as what you’re about to see next.

After several months of battle, your country has defeated the coronavirus. So you decide to take a much-needed vacation.

But when you board the plane, you see this:

You start to wonder if the plane’s entry door was actually a black hole that led to a parallel universe or if you’re about to be murdered.

Either way, it’s not good.

But then you find out that this is just another measure to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

AirAsia, our favourite budget airline after Scoot, has unveiled new personal protective equipment (PPE) for its cabin crew members to be used as flights resume in the coming days in the region.

Flight attendants will now be required to wear the PPE on all of Air Asia’s domestic and international flights.

The PPEs were designed in collaboration with Puey Quinones, a Filipino fashion designer.

The new uniforms are a little different from their previous ones, but it does have their signature red and white colour scheme.

“I chose to have PPE material that is approved by the (Philippines) Department of Health to protect our Allstars” said Sheila Romero of Air Asia.

“I like that it’s chic and sporty-similar to what Formula One race car drivers wear. This fusion of fashion and safety will define the new standards of flying today.”

Many Airlines Ceased Operations Due To Covid-19

As the Daily Mail says, many airlines have either ceased operations entirely or have drastically cut back their flight schedules in response to lockdown measures all over the world.

Singapore Airlines, for instance, recently announced the cancellation of 96 per cent of its scheduled flights until the end of June.

Air Asia grounded nearly all of its planes in March due to the coronavirus pandemic and is only carrying out repatriation or recovery flights at present.

These PPEs were first used last Friday (24 April) during a recovery flight from Bangkok to Manila.

According to The Straits Times, Air Asia will resume their scheduled domestic flights starting with Malaysia on Wednesday (29 April), followed by Thailand on Friday (1 May), India (4 May), Indonesia (7 Ma7) and the Philippines (16 May), subject to approval from authorities.

And their cabin crew members will be wearing these new PPEs on all these flights, of course.

It looks a little different, that’s for sure, but the fact that some flights are resuming is certainly a good sign.
