Imagine opening your windows one day and seeing your neighbour adding a new addition to the common corridor. Instead of the cute succulent you’re expecting to see, you are greeted with a pair of creepy dolls placed in an odd manner, almost as if your neighbours are in the process of putting a curse on your family.

Although that situation may not happen to most of us, this was what a family had to deal with in Ang Mo Kio.

Couple Who Put ‘Creepy Dolls’ Outside AMK HDB Flat Say They’re Not Curse Dolls

Located right outside a home at Ang Mo Kio is a makeshift altar with a pair of dolls made from paper. They are tied together with three joss sticks on what seems like a small coffin. On the altar is also two citruses with rusted iron nails affixed in the centre of the fruits.

This altar has been placed under Madam Ho’s windows by their neighbours, causing her and her family to be uneasy. A complaint about this has been lodged to the police and town council but the situation has yet to be resolved as it’s a religious matter.

Thus, Ho’s family members decided to post about this matter on Facebook.

“Black Magic”

Comments flooded under the post with some netizens calling the makeshift altar “black magic”. while others gave supernatural advice on how to deflect the “curse”.

Other netizens also asked them to pursue the help of a Thai master or someone from the temple.

These comments were clearly not reassuring especially since Ho had beef with the neighbours before.

Not on Good Terms with the Neighbours

Ho used to greet their neighbours when they first moved in but things turned sour when their neighbours decided to place a shoe cabinet outside their door.

Additionally, the neighbours also used bowls to catch the rainwater but that lead to the breeding of mosquitos.

Ever since Ho complained to the town council, both neighbours have stopped speaking to each other.

So, is the altar placed there as a curse due to their dispute?

It might appear so, but the owner of the alter has spoken.

Not Intentional

When Shin Ming Daily News interviewed the neighbour, a couple, they said Ho’s family kept trying to “find fault” with them.

They also agreed that it all started with the shoe cabinet outside their home. Ever since they placed the shoe cabinet, Ho’s family installed the wooden boards above the rack to put plants, and they even installed CCTV cameras.

The couple also said Ho’s family are also guilty of bizarre acts as well. Some of them include:

  • Hanging socks on their fan which blew in the direction of the incense, causing a safety hazard
  • Ho’s husband allegedly provoked the couple by putting his hands together in prayer outside their door

On the other hand, the couple said the placement of the altar under Ho’s window was not intentional for they share a common corridor space.

Not a Curse

According to Fengshui master and numerologist Tan Khoon Yong, the makeshift altar is not a curse. Instead, it is an unconventional way to invite wealth.

“Even if it’s a curse it wouldn’t be so obvious.”

Fengshui practitioner and folklore expert Xu Yiting also discourage people to place such altars in or outside their homes for their unnatural energy may affect the entire home.

Xu also added even if the wealth is obtained, it may not be safe.
