Amos Yee Might Have Been Released from Prison Now

Do you remember who Amos Yee is?

Yes, he is the infamous blogger from Singapore who ran into trouble in Singapore after criticising our former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew.

Apart from his extreme comments, Yee also landed himself in hot soup by exchanging text messages with an underage girl while seeking asylum in the United States of America.

That caused him to serve time in prison as a sex offender.

Now, it seems that Yee will be released from prison soon.

Here is what we know about Yee’s impending release from prison.

Amos Yee May Have Been Released From Prison

Earlier this week, a user on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), posted that Amos Yee is “due to be released from the Illinois River Correctional Centre tomorrow”.

In the post, some images of Yee, with his inmate number, can be seen.

Yee now sports a clean, shaved bald look for his front and side view mugshots.

And it appears that the X user’s post is true.

Channel News Asia reported today that Yee was released on parole from jail.

For those who are unaware, Yee was sentenced to jail in the USA in 2021 for charges of grooming and possessing child pornography.

He was sentenced to six years in jail so his release now means he served about three years.

Prisoners are usually eligible for early release on parole if certain criteria are met.

Yee’s Conditions for Parole and Early Release From Prison Are Unknown

According to Channel News Asia, Yee was granted parole or placed on mandatory supervised release status.

The local newspaper also said that the message releasing this information said that “this offender is no longer in the custody of the Illinois Department of Corrections as of Oct 7, 2023”.

The conditions of Yee’s parole are unknown at the moment.

However, we speculate that they should have conditions attached to not recommitting the sexual offences he was sentenced to jail for.

Indeed, Yee’s name is required to be listed on the sex offender registry, given his past offence.

Whatever the case, we sure hope that Yee manages to avoid any further brushes with the law.

This is sure to be one case we’re keeping our eyes on.
