Three people were taken to hospital after a fire broke out in an HDB flat at Ang Mo Kio on Tuesday morning, 22 September.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to the fire at Block 254 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4 at about 10.45am.
Two people from the affected flat were taken to Singapore General Hospital after being assessed for smoke inhalation, while a firefighter was sent to Woodlands Hospital after being assessed for heat exhaustion.
About 20 residents were also evacuated from the block as a precaution.
Fire Broke Out in Seventh-Floor Flat
According to SCDF, firefighters arriving at the block saw black smoke coming from the living room of a seventh-floor flat.
The fire involved items in the living room and was extinguished using one water jet.
During the firefighting operation, SCDF personnel found two people inside a bedroom and helped them out of the unit.
Both were assessed for smoke inhalation before being taken to Singapore General Hospital.
Police and SCDF also evacuated around 20 residents from the affected block for safety.
Firefighter Taken to Hospital After Heat Exhaustion Assessment
After the fire had been put out, one firefighter was assessed for heat exhaustion.
The firefighter was subsequently taken to Woodlands Hospital as a precaution.
SCDF did not provide further details about the conditions of the two residents or the firefighter in the information reported by 8world.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
SCDF Reminds Residents About Common Fire Risks
Following the incident, SCDF highlighted three common causes of residential fires: unattended cooking, electrical fires and unattended lighted materials such as incense, candles and cigarettes.
Residents were advised not to leave food cooking unattended and to keep cooking appliances free of accumulated grease.
SCDF also advised against overloading power sockets or leaving electronic devices charging overnight without supervision.
For candles, incense and cigarettes, residents should ensure that they are fully extinguished before leaving them unattended or disposing of them.
