Another Car Vs Cyclist Incident: This Time It Almost Became Kungfu Fight

And so we thought that this was the end of all road incidents.

And so we thought.

Inter-Generational Clash

On 28 Feb 2019, there was yet another incident on the road.

This time, a bicycle collided with an Audi but what escalated was not the injuries, but rather the heated dispute between the couple in their 60s, and a 15-year-old cyclist.

Along the roads of Pasir Ris Drive 3, the couple were caught on video repeatedly trying to grab the teenager’s phone out of his hands after the cyclist had allegedly hit the car that the 60-year-old woman was driving.

Both parties are currently assisting the police with investigations into a case of ‘voluntarily causing hurt‘, as mentioned in a STOMP report.

The police said they were alerted to an accident between a car and a bicycle along Pasir Ris Drive 3 towards Loyang Avenue at 7.20pm.

According to the post on SG Road Vigilante, the cyclist wanted to overtake another cyclist on the road, and did not slow down despite seeing the traffic light, as it ‘was about to turn green‘.

However, when the Audi A6 jam braked in front of him, the two parties collided, and the cyclist’s hand hit the back of the car.

After the incident, the couple came out of the car and started to spew vulgarities, according to the cyclist.

According to the video, the couple threatened to report the teen to the Land Transport Authority (LTA).

An Almost-Kung Fu Fight

They then argue over whether there are scratches on the car. Whilst the cyclist says there is no damage, the couple insists that there is.

However, the footage is not clear enough to establish if there are indeed any scratches on the Audi.

The woman then demands the cyclist give her his identity card and shouts, “Give me your IC lah!” while grabbing at his phone and struggling with him.

The man is heard in the background saying: “You want to fight ah? You want to fight, is it?

What followed was a few seconds of the camera shaking and raised voices, signifying that the couple was reaching for the cyclist’s phone and knocking it away from his hand.

They stop when a passerby shouts at them: “You cannot do this!”

She insists they explain whatever issue they have to the police instead and adds: “The moment you fight him you are in the wrong.”

When the cyclist tells the woman she hit him first so she is in the wrong, she swings her arm at him again.

The cyclist then threatens, “I left foot you ah!”

The woman replies, “You say that again?”

The couple then tells the cyclist not to go anywhere while they call for the police.

Two Sides of a Coin

As always, netizens are divided on who is in the wrong.

Some said that it was the student’s fault:

“Cyclist pls la stop cycling on the road,

1) u are not covered by insurance and what if your bike damage the vehicle

2) u don’t pay road tax

3) causing the road to slow down or avoid u”

Whilst others blamed the aggressive couple:

“There is only 1 basic rule here which is, do not physically harm or attack anybody regardless of how upset you are. If driving a conti car brings you such financial distress, unhappiness and latent rage, then please switch to public transport or just stay at home.”

Here, You Can Watch The Video For Yourself Below:

Driver Came out with His Side of the Story

Remember what I mentioned about two sides of a coin?

Well, the driver has released a footage from his in-car camera.

And here’s what he wrote:

There are a few things to clarify as seen on the footage. Our vehicle was slowing to a stop at the traffic light, there wasn’t any instances of “jam brake” as stated by the other party. He also mentioned that only his hand hit onto the rear of my vehicle correct? So what does that look to you all? Full impact onto the rear or just the hands? Yes, we might have over reacted in a certain manner but it was the actions and unremorseful attitude of this arrogant individual that provoked us continuously. Upon impact, from the video you can see he tried to escape by cycling away. We then came down of the vehicle to check the damages and guess what? The individual actually denied the collision, we told him that we had a rear view car cam and cut the lies. After knowing that we had a rear view cam he changed his tone and started saying “So? Scratch only what, not as if something big”. If you were the owner/driver of the vehicle and he said that to you, how would you feel?

  1. He wasn’t even apologetic to start with.
  2. He gave that kind of arrogant attitude as if he wasn’t in any fault.
  3. One doesn’t not touch other people’s property that you collided into due to your own negligence.
  4. Even before allowing us to take any photos of the damages for the insurance claims, he attempted to clean off the damages.

Since this happened between a vehicle and bicycle, the procedure is not as straight forward as it would be with another vehicle. How do you verify his personal details? Unlike normal motor claims where you can just get his car plate number and let insurance company settle everything. He doesn’t possess a driving license, therefore the next most logical identification would be his NRIC right? We asked for his NRIC and he refused. Then we ask him to call his parents down to settle on his behalf and he refused too. If you were in their shoes what would you have done? After all the refusal from the cyclist, he decided to take his phone out and record videos of us. That is the result of the first video that he uploaded.

  1. Why video someone when you are clearly in the wrong?
  2. The cyclist initial reaction was not to apologise but to deny.
  3. If it was you and someone collided into your vehicle, refusing to apologise, refusing to provide any identification, giving arrogant attitude and start taking video of you; will you like it?

This is my side of the facts with the evidence from the rear/forward cam video. We hope to show how this individual can lie and twist the facts.

Not the First Time

It was only this week that I covered the somewhat intense fight between a cyclist and a lorry driver.

In which majority of the Internet sided with Mr One Punch Man (or the cyclist in question).

And remember this lovely smirk and all that came with it?
