The Singapore MRT system is both a blessing and a curse to us Singaporeans.
On one hand, it helps keep Singaporeans connected within Singapore.
But on the other hand, it has somehow been causing a lot of problems for us Singaporeans recently. Especially with all the disruptions.
Although to be fair, SMRT has time and again assured the public that these problems arose due to them implementing a new system. Which will open up a whole new world for Singaporean commuters with shorter waiting times and faster
A system which, once stable, will open up a whole new world for Singaporean commuters. Think shorter waiting times and faster trains. #FingersCrossed
But just because your train has arrived at your stop promptly doesn’t mean you can sigh in relief.
Because this might happen to you instead.
On 10 August 2017, passengers on the North-South Line encountered a disruption to their journey. Again.
But this time, it’s not caused by the trains, but the train station itself.
According to a Facebook user, Tan, who sent us the video via Facebook messaging, he encountered this issue on his morning train journey.
At 6.45 am, his train arrived at Ang Mo Kio MRT station. The train doors opened but the barriers at the edge of the platform allegedly didn’t.
The commuters who wanted to alight could only stare at the platform longingly while the train closes its doors and moved on to the next station.
According to Tan, those who could not alight at Ang Mo Kio had to alight at the next stop, Yio Chu Kang and rush to take the train back to the previous station.
That’s an additional 6 minutes, give or take.
You can watch the video of the incident below:
A refreshing change from the usual track faults but I think we’d rather not have these things happen.
Were you on that fateful train which kena this thing early in the morning?
