This company’s attempts to combat the Pokémon Go outbreak is amusing, to say the least.
Everway Sdn Bhd sent out a warning letter to its employees, which reads:
Playing POKEMON GO during working hours is prohibited. In doing so, will be fined for RM50 each POKEMONS you have.
Laudable grammar aside, fines could work to deter employees from catching ’em all during work. Either that, or they’ll be even sneakier when going after that Pikachu (there’s even a guide that teaches you how to play the game at work without being fired).
Still, fining employees isn’t the most extreme response to Pokémon Go that we’ve heard of. A US company even set up a software block for the game, which is CRAZY EXPENSIVE.
This is what the company had to say about their decision:
Due to the popularity of Pokémon Go and users not being able to make the conscious decision to not play Pokémon at work – we had a near miss for a user getting hurt while playing the game. Due to that, we had to react and disable the Pokémon app from all devices – we had over 100 active installs of that application. The blacklist removes all that we consider to be carrier bloatware and now also the Pokémon Go app.
Harsh, but we get why it was necessary.
Anyway, back to the letter. As much as we think the threat of fines might be able to lessen the Pokémon Go craze at work, what threw us off was the line in fine print.
PS: If you CANT pay the Fined, your only solution is to give all your Pokemons to the boss.
Apparently, it’s impossible to just “give all your Pokemons” away, because as this netizen so aptly put it:
We wonder how the bossman would react once he finds out it’s impossible to grow his Pokémon collection.
