iPhone has been making the headlines recently, all for the wrong reasons.
Apple intentionally slowing down older models’ performance, getting sued for doing said slowing down of phone models without letting the public know.
Then there are the iPhone X sales.
In case you’ve been living under a rock (where have you been that internet can’t reach you?), here’s a summary for you:
iPhone X demand predicted to drop like crazy
On 26 Dec 2017, CNBC reported that Apple’s iPhone X sales forecast will be slashed from 50 million units to 30 million units.
Other analysts were also quick to jump on the bandwagon.
It was said that demand will fall due to the crazy high price point and lack of innovation.
However, Chicago-based Loop Capital said that there’ll be shipments of 40 to 45 million units in the first quarter of 2018.
Reuters analysed that interest in the iPhone X wasn’t as high as iPhone 6 in 2014.
There were 4.97 million posts on Weibo on iPhone X, compared to iPhone 6’s 11 million.
Here’s why this is important.
Less than expected iPhone X sales forecasts
The iPhone X is converting plenty of people in China to jump to the half-eaten apple camp, but it’s not doing so great in other markets.
It is mentioned that shipments for iPhone X will reach 30 to 35 million units, then drop or plateau.
Countries like Singapore, Taiwan and US are generating less demand than expected and it was said that Apple dropped several Asian suppliers due to that.
3 more iPhones to be released next year
It was rumoured that due to the weak demand for iPhone X, Apple is planning to release three iPhone models next year.
Two of the models will have OLED displays while the other model comes with an LCD screen.
The best part? All three handsets will come with facial recognition features, similar to what the iPhone X now has.
It was also rumoured that Apple is preparing an iPhone that’s even larger than iPhone X.
Something bigger than iPhone X, now that’s something to look forward to.
Adjustment of prices for iPhones in 2018
Typically, if you can’t afford to buy an iPhone at its original price, what you’ll do is to go for an older model, right?
With the release of the three new iPhones next year, the iPhone models would be considered “older” models.
So it wouldn’t be a stretch to see Apple adjusting their iPhones’ prices.
Of course, as iPhone X is a relatively new model, it still remains to be seen if iPhone X will have its price adjusted too.
Of course, these are just rumours and Apple has yet to comment on anything.
But one can always hope, right?
So which one is more exciting for you? A possible drop in the price of iPhone X, or the three new models coming out next year?
