The Apple Vision Pro is the most ambitious product Apple has ever created.
Released in the US on 2 February 2024, this new headset by Apple is one of our first few steps into the era of spatial computing.
So, what the heck is it?
For a start, it’s simply a VR headset (which Apple said it isn’t, because it’s Apple: they always have a new name for any old technology they have), and it looks like a pair of ski goggles:
But it’s more than that.
You Can View Apps Through the Headset
Apple Vision Pro gives you an infinite canvas. You can arrange apps anywhere and scale them to the size you like to craft your own personalised workspace – all while staying present in the world around you.
You can utilise your usual apps like Safari, Notes, Messages, and more, while seamlessly moving between them with a glance.
You can even pull a 3D object out of an app and look at it from every angle.
The headset is also compatible with Bluetooth accessories like Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad, allowing you to go through your complex spreadsheets and long emails.
Entertainment
Apple Vision Pro gives you to ability to transform any room into your own personal theatre. You can expand movies, shows, and games, up to the perfect size to fully immerse in it. Even better, Spatial Audio makes you feel like you’re part of the action.
With more pixels than a 4K TV for each eye, you can enjoy high quality content whenever, wherever.
Your favourite movies and TV shows from Apple TV+ and other streaming services are available on Apple Vision Pro.
You no longer have to pay premiums at cinemas because Apple Vision Pro lets you enjoy 3D movies with amazing depth and crisp motion.
VisionOS games in Apple Arcade allow you to experience your favourite iPad games in a new way, and you can also play using Bluetooth game controllers.
Photos and Videos
This one is kinda crazy. You can now take spatial photos and spatial videos in 3D with the iPhone 15 Pro.
When you view your gallery on Apple Vision Pro, your panoramas will now wrap around you. Your favourite videos will be in 3D, accompanied by immersive Spatial Audio.
Talk about reliving moments.
Connection
This headset makes it easy to collaborate and connect wherever you are. FaceTime video tiles are now life-size. You can also share apps with others and use them together in FaceTime with SharePlay, sharing app windows, or your entire view.
The Design
The Solo Knit Band provides cushioning, breathability, and stretch. Fit Dial lets you adjust the device precisely to your head. For a personalised fit, the Dual Loop Band has your back.
The external battery supports up to 2 hours of general use and up to 2.5 hours of video playback.
Its speakers are positioned close to your ears to deliver rich Spatial Audio while keeping you aware of your surroundings
VisionOS
Of course they have to come out with a new OS for this.
Called VisionOS, it enables you to control your Apple Vision Pro with your eyes, hands, and voice.
Simply look at an element, tap your fingers together to select, and use the virtual keyboard or dictation to type.
Apps can fill the space around you and can be moved anywhere without the boundaries of a display. Apps can be scaled to the perfect size, react to the lighting in your room, and even cast shadows.
This technology is insanely advanced.
Going at USD$3,499 or USD$291.58/mo for 12 months, you can own your very own Apple Vision Pro. Prescription or reader optical inserts are available at USD$149 or USD$99 respectively to suit your needs.
This is, however, available in the US only, and it’ll be available in more countries later this year.
