Lest you’re unaware, Apple recently held a special event to showcase some of their newest gadgets and boy, what a fest it was.
Halloween-themed, the event saw the tech giant unveiling new PC chips, MacBook Pro laptops and an entirely new iMac model to the public on 30 October 2023.
Everything About Apple’s “Scary Fast” Event & The New Products Announced
Chips
First, let’s start with the chips, which are reportedly constructed on a 3-nanometer process.
Dubbed the M3, M3 Pro and M3 Max chips, these PC chips are geared towards AI developers and 3D artists and apparently command up to 22 hours of battery life.
They are also said to be a significant upgrade over their predecessors, with greater horsepower, faster running speed and longer battery life.
The entry-level M3 has a supposed 8-core central processing unit (CPU) and a graphics processing unit (GPU) of up to 10 cores.
The M3 Pro, on the other hand, has a 12-core CPU and an 18-core GPU. The M3 Max has a 16-core CPU and a GPU of up to 40 cores.
The latest GPUs are said to be 1.8 times faster than the M2 GPUs. The M3 CPUs supposedly run 15% faster than their predecessors.
While the first two chips are already available, machines with the M3 Max will not be shipping until late November.
MacBook Pro and iMac
Fans of Apple’s MacBook will surely be pleased to know that there are new MacBook Pro models in town. And for your information, they’re said to be “scary fast”.
Available in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes, the updated models will be equipped with M3 processors, with the latter getting an M3 Pro chip.
Up to 60% faster than the 13-inch MacBook Pro with an M1 chip, the new MacBook Pro is said to be 11 times faster than the fastest Intel-based model and will have 11 additional hours of battery life.
They will also, in addition to USB-C ports, have an HDMI port and an SD card slot.
In comparison, the MacBook Air models only have USB-C ports.
The 14-inch MacBook Pro will start at US$1,599 with an M3 processor. It can be upgraded to an M3 Pro chip for a US$400 increment.
Meanwhile, the 16-inch MacBook Pro will start at US$2,499 with an M3 Pro chip.
Over in Singapore, laptop prices will start from S$2,299.
Both versions can be upgraded to M3 Max for an additional fee.
It should be noted that MacBook Pros equipped with the Pro and Max chips will be available in a new “Space Black” colour.
The shade is described as dark aluminium and will reportedly be anodized such that fingerprint smudges will be lessened.
There will also be a 24-inch iMac desktop version, which will reportedly start at US$1,299.
Unlike its predecessor, which employed an M1 chip, the updated iMac will use an M3 chip. This will allow the iMac to operate up to two times faster than an iMac with an M1.
Touted as the world’s best all-in-one, the updated iMac will come with an onslaught of “incredible and innovative features”.

Earlier Announcement
A few months ago, the tech giant unveiled its highly-anticipated iPhone 15 series.
Unlike earlier renditions, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus now have USB-C charging ports.
Both phones also support MagSafe and future Qi2 chargers for wireless charging.
Not just that, the devices are also able to “reverse-charge”.
Simply put, you can charge AirPods and Apple Watches with the same USB-C cable.
In general, the iPhone 15 series boasts a better display and a more powerful camera.
They are also equipped with the A16 Bionic processor, an aspect formerly exclusive to the iPhone 14 Pro series.
The A16 processor uses two high-performance cores that consume 20% less power and four high-efficiency cores. This gives you fast performance while preserving battery life.
The 5-core GPU, with 50% more memory bandwidth, gives a smoother graphics experience when watching videos or playing games.
