Michelle Yeoh has quite a bit of screen time in the last twelve months. From being the fearsome mother in Crazy Rich Asians to her kickass character in Star Trek: Discovery that features some of the best sarcastic one-liners in a Malaysia / Singapore accent, she's definitely one busy lady who's been everywhere. Other well known Hollywood actors such as Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Kate Winslet and Sigourney Weaver are also set to join the cast. The director James Cameron said, "Throughout her career, Michelle has always created unique and memorable characters. I look forward to working with Michelle to do the same thing on the Avatar sequels." Michelle played the role of Eleanor Young in Crazy Rich Asians that took the world by storm. Hollywood adored her after the premiere, and since then her popularity has risen. Crazy Rich Asians was nominated for 43 awards and won 8 of them. Well deserved. And let's be honest, although she played a snobby rich taitai, we all loved it anyway because it's Michelle Yeoh. And who can forget her role in Star Trek: Discovery? In two seasons, she portrayed two characters from two universes: Captain Philippa Georgiou and Emperor Philippa Georgiou, using her signature Malaysia / Singapore accent, and even saying that she was from Malaysia, much to the delight of local fans. Her performance was so kickass (if you've watched it, you'd know that "kickass" is the perfect word to describe the character) that the producer decided to create a spin-off based on her character. (Though, if you've watched the final episode of season two that aired on Netflix two days ago, you'd wonder if that would really happen) Successful Internationally For those of you who may not know, Michelle is actually a Malaysian actress. In the 90s, she starred mainly in Hong Kong actions films such as Yes, Madam and Super Cop. Her career internationally hit off after she starred in the 1997 James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies and the Chinese language martial arts film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon in 2000. So you would've seen her on TV or in a movie. Or maybe, you'll see her in upcoming films. Speaking of which, she'll also be reuniting with her on-screen son, Henry Golding in the film Last Christmas. You would think that after all the movies and shows she has starred in, she would've won an award for her roles. She has been nominated for numerous awards but never won any of them. She's number one in our hearts, though. Despite not winning those awards, she has been awarded many more bigger and prestigious awards. Awards and Honours In 2011, Michelle was awarded the Darjah Datuk Paduka Mahkota Perak (DPMP). This carries the title Dato', by Sultan Azlan Shah. He was the Sultan of Perak, her home state, in recognition of the fame she had brought to the state. Also in 2011, she received a special award for her contribution to the Malaysian cinema at the Malaysian Film Festival. Besides these awards, she has also received many others that honour her for her contribution in acting. Now, let's look forward to Michelle flying over to Pandora on the big screen, and her kicking ass in the Star Trek spin-off that'll feature her in Section 31, the black ops department of Starfleet.
