If you are reading this article, it probably means you use some form of social media, which also means that you probably heard of the famous “Badge Lady” who has been off and on the trend books in the past two years.
She has been all over the news and social media, where she has been meme-ed every now and then.
Recently, she got herself in the spotlight once more for a similar reason to her prior “accolades”.

On 7 Oct, 55-year-old Phoon Chiu Yoke, also known as the “Badge Lady” has been charged again for failing to wear a mask indoors.
Wow, if only everyone was as tenacious as her.
Charged for Breaching Covid-19 Regulations
The reason she was charged under the Covid-19 (Reopening – Control Order) Regulations 2022 is because on 16 Aug, she was apparently caught by the authorities for walking inside Ion Orchard without a mask (again).
At that time, it was still illegal to remove your mask in indoor locations such as a shopping mall.
Wearing mask indoors was only made optional on 29 Aug, which is two weeks after the incident.
Back in 2021, Phoon served 16 weeks in jail for breaking COVID-19 regulations.
Now, she faces four charges, all of which are also related to breaking COVID-19 regulations.
For each of the charges that she face, Phoon can be jailed for up to a year or fined up to $20,000 or both.

She is expected to return to court on 14 Oct for her sentence.
Who is the “Badge Lady”?
If you have been living in a cave for the past two years, do not worry, we will bring you up to speed.
Phoon was first brought into the media spotlight when she was spotted without a wearing a mask in Marina Bay Sands (MBS).
In a video, an amazingly patient safe distancing ambassador can be seen reminding Phoon to wear a mask as part of the COVID-19 regulations back then.
However, despite multiple attempts, Phoon refused to wear her mask and kept asking for the safe distancing ambassador for a “badge”.

Hence, the nickname “Badge Lady”.
Prior to the MBS situation, she was also seen roaming around Singapore mask-less, which she has already been charged for. And after the incident, she was seen roaming around Singapore mask-less again and again.
Phoon is also said to be relatively high ranking Naval officer with the rank of Major. She served in the Republic of Singapore Navy from 1990 to 2002, which was when she retired.
