The roads can be a dangerous place.

Being irresponsible could have serious reprehensions, such as getting injured or being the cause of said injury.

Also, if you’ve consumed alcohol, please don’t drive.

Don’t be like this guy, who never learnt his lesson three times.

Your status doesn’t matter, everyone is equal on the road.

Lee Keng Weng, 53, has been severely punished for repeatedly engaging in drink driving, TNP reported.

To be exact, this was his third offence, which you really have to wonder why he didn’t learn from the previous two.

On 25 Nov, he was sentenced to 12 weeks of jail and fined S$15,000.

Lee was also banned from driving forever.

The Latest Case

The incident occurred last year on 28 Nov.

Lee was at the Chinese Swimming Club and shared a bottle of red wine with someone else. This occurred around 5pm to 9pm, The Straits Times reported.

Despite this, he decided to drive home and made for Bukit Timah Road.

At around 11.10pm, he reportedly lost control of his car and crashed into a construction barricade in front of Balmoral Plaza.

This caused the car’s windscreen to crack and badly damaged its front portion.

A passer-by called the police who arrived at about 12.30am. Lee was not badly wounded and a paramedic treated a small cut on his lip.

One traffic officer noted his bloodshot eyes, the strong smell of alcohol and his flushed face.

Lee tried to deny drinking but owned up right after he had to do a breath test.

That’s like trying to pass up a worksheet half completed and said you finished it.

His blood sample was taken at Tan Tock Seng Hospital four hours later.

The test confirmed that Lee’s blood-alcohol level was just over the prescribed limit.

Past Offences and Prior Situation

We mentioned earlier that this was his third offence.

According to Deputy Public Prosecutor Stephanie Koh, the other two cases of drink driving happened in 2001 and 2010.

Lee was apparently jobless, according to his lawyer, and was actually drinking with a potential employer.

He had also gotten divorced this year and was suffering from depression. At the very least, Lee did not use this as an excuse.

His lawyer also stated that he used to give to charity regularly and once directed his own investment firm.

Once again, everyone is equal on the road.

Regardless, the District Judge said that there were no special exceptions in this incident and had to give a more serious punishment as it was his third offence.

He could’ve been fined S$20,000 and jailed for up to two years, so he actually got off easier.

Though a lifetime ban on driving is still pretty significant.
