1,000 women were surveyed across Singapore and Malaysia about their shoe-shopping habits, and can you guess what’s the shocking news that they found? Singaporean women spend an enormous amount on shopping for shoes, and that amount is a cool $204,000 per woman in her lifetime. That’s enough to buy 2 Mercedes Benz, guys/boyfriends/husbands. Can you feel your heart pain now?
What’s worth noting is that more than half that amount, around $120,000, is reserved for designer brands such as Louboutins, Ferragamos etc. More than 66% of the Singaporean women surveyed have a secret shoe fund that they top up every month where up to $1,000 is deposited monthly. In contrast, Malaysian women save less than half that amount.

Machiam like save for wedding or BTO right?
Also, you might be interested/slightly pissed/mortified to know that 89% of the women admit to owning shoes they wore less than five times, with 46% owning shoes that hasn’t even been worn yet. In other words, that’s like buying a Mercedes Benz and not driving it.
Also, guys may not get this but almost 33% of the women purchase same shoes again, or every colour of one style once they have found their perfect solemate. The excuse is that you need different colours for different outfits, right? For most guys, having black/brown/grey shoes are enough.
Women also make use of overseas trips to shop for more shoes. More than a third of respondents said that they take over their partner’s luggage allowance or even buy an extra suitcase to bring their new shoes home. Now you know, guys, you cannot stop your girlfriends and wives from buying shoes even when “there is no space left!” She will find a way, by hook or by crook, to bring them back.
The survey also indicates that a third of women in Singapore buy shoes to celebrate a success, while almost half of them buy a pair when their pay check arrives. That’s more than 12 pairs in a year. You might need to buy a new shoe closet every few years.
These five GRCs could see the tightest battle in GE2025; here’s why:
