7 Apr 2020 is fast approaching and Singapore’s tougher measures are about to kick in.
All businesses except for essential services will be closed down. People are no longer allowed to eat at F&B outlets.
And you definitely shouldn’t visit your elderly parents.
Now, there are some who don’t mind looking like a caveman while staying home for the entire month.
But then again, there are those who need a haircut every two weeks.
Either because they want to look their best even at home, or just find the weather too unbearable for long, thick hair.
I’ve Got Good News For The Latter
Essential services, in this case, includes haircuts.
Hair salons can still offer basic haircuts for customers throughout the entire month of “circuit breaking”.
However, that’s all you can do at the hair salon.
Dyeing your hair, facial or even treatments are suspended during this period.
Maybe it’s time to dye your hair back to black, huh?
Some Salons Hit Worst Than Others
Salons that ST spoke to all agreed that the situation isn’t looking too rosy for them.
While some are able to offer basic haircuts and make some revenue during this period, others like Kew Organics, which only offers facial services, will have to close during this period.
Bosses are grappling with falling revenue, stricter measures and trying their best not to let anyone go on unpaid leave.
But it seems like an inevitable future.
“I’m very in favour of the stricter measures. But no boss would want their staff to go on no-pay leave, because they’re family.”
Even those who can continue operating their salons to offer basic haircuts expects business to fall even further.
Going For One Last Hurrah
If you’re thinking of going to hair salons to cut hair now (before 7 Apr), don’t.
Everybody’s trying to go for various treatments and services before the stricter measures kick in.
“It feels like Christmas came early.”
So go after 7 Apr if all you’re looking for is a basic haircut.
